Pinky - open task manager, and look at the processes tab when the lappy is slow. Does svchost use a LOT of RAM? If so, it's a symptom of a known problem with W7 SP1 and windows update. If this is why you're suffering (as are most W7 users are with this) MS is working on a patch to fix it for late Q2 of this year, so June/July time.
