Dog chew toys

I apologise for the banality of this thread!
Our 8-month puppy is, I think, a strong chewer. And I can tell sometimes he prefers a hard chew toy (nylabones, etc.) and sometimes a soft chew toy (plaited ropes, etc.). However, he will motor through the soft ones at alarming speed, picking threads away with his front teeth and then chewing them off with his molars. We've gone through quite a few variations of off the shelf rope type toys including tug toys, knotted, plaited and bone shaped ones but all meet the same fate. We also allow him an old jumper to play with and try restrict the chewing of that. It's not just a money issue but trying to restrict the amount of threads he swallows.
I know they aren't meant to last forever but I was hoping for a MSE solution to find something soft, cheap and long lasting!
Cheers.

Black kongs. Only thing that works safely.
Our younger one was a massive chewer (probably still is, but we just don't have any toys anymore because of her). We've tried loads of toys, and the only ones that worked were the black kongs, nylabones and deer antlers. She managed to damage a front tooth (bit down too hard and "bruised" the tooth) on either the nylabone or the deer antler though, so it's just the black kongs now.

Depends on the power chewer. Mine can get through a black kong in a couple of hours. And don't go anywhere near the pets at home ruff and tuff - they were a 3 minute jobbie!
I've not managed to find anything soft, cheap and long lasting so if you do, let me know.
As far as soft toys go, I do give Gitdog the plaited ropes or balls but only to play and chase with. As soon as he starts chewing I take them off him.
Can you teach him that some toys are for playing with rather than chewing? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
How about some marrow bones? My adult Shepherd can actually crunch through them, but he's a strong old boy and he's had lots of practice!0

Pound shop rope toys! They're the longest lasting toys my two have had - and that includes my Rottie x!0

I second the deer antlers!!! Expensive but seem to be indestructible...0

Cheers all. Deer antlers are a surprise! Highly enterprising!!
I forgot to add the dog has a kong extreme and he likes it, not so much for chewing on but he does love it for playing and treats.
I was after suggestions for toys which were textile or rope based initially but I'll look out for antlers, if only for the novelty!
I wonder if normal cotton based strong rope from hardware shop would also be safe for puppies...?0 -
The only soft toys that my Jack Russell hasn't completely destroyed are the shaker toys that come in fox, frog and duck versions. The body is long and skinny without filling. He has managed to get a hole in the fur of the head and stuffing started coming out, so I pulled all the stuffing out completely and now he runs about with it and shakes it. He likes snuffling his nose in it. So cute
The rope toys, he pulls apart within minutes and there are threads everywhere. I've given up with those!

Stag bar number two here, (first one was a puppy sized one and now too small) I bought it yesterday on a whim as this one has more of the innards showing for her to have a good go at. I have to be honest and say she will have at it for a good while but ONLY if nothing more exciting/edible is doing!Total debt £20,000 Northern Rock loan:eek:
Debt free date April 2016!!!!:eek:0
