can I offer a suggestion about the kids' "pickiness"? I've found it helps to get children involved as much as possible with food - in planning the meals for the week, shopping and cooking.

In our house we all get to chose at least one meal a week, so if tonight's dinner isn't your favourite you know that another night it will be. My girls (aged 15 and 12) take it in turns to cook once a week. It's helped them to realise the hard work that goes into making a meal, and to be a bit more adventurous too. sometimes kids can be more willing to try new foods if they've helped to cook it.

Bitteranstwisted: I agree with you, but I'm gonna hAve to try hard to undo the damage.

Sazzledazzle1: hello, I'm gonna have a look later on tonight thanks for the tip :)

Joolzred: I don't use fabric softener for that reason either but the tips on the washing powder sounds good, I'll give that a go. I never really thought about the "scent" thing not being clean, now you've pointed it out it's pretty obvious really lol.

Phizzimum: that was one of my thoughts about planning the meals with the kids, I tried it a while ago and it was a disaster cos they both kicked off but I'm gonna try again a bit more firmly and I let them help me bake but never really thought about letting them help make tea so gonna try that.

    Thanks all x

Yeah I think I'll try freezing stuff, I go mad with the OH as any leftovers (on the pan not the plate) he gives to the dog lol.

When I started dieting I got into the habit of putting any leftover/extra food into plastic containers (from takeaways) and popping straight in the fridge. Less tendency to come back and pick then. Once cold it is a short trip to the freezer, clearly labelled for another day.
A takeaway curry portion is always too big for us so we put the excess in pots and freeze. My OH insists on Friday night curry but now I sometimes home cook them and one week in 3 or 4 is a Thali with all the little leftover pots and just some rice and/or naan.

Your kids are probably old enough now to be treated to the, eat it or have nothing/bread and butter line. Look at the things they do eat and try to change it up a bit. So if they like spag Bol, make it with pork mince, hide veg in the sauce by blending it up that sort of thing.

Do they eat veg? Expand their horizons with raw veg, honey roast veg etc. What about spices? Do they like spicy potato wedges? Change it up with different root vegetables.

Don't worry about what anyone else spends! This is down to individual circumstances, needs and access to produce.

    Xx
