I am sorry but I had to share with the biggest and best community. How lucky we are in the UK with the traffic rules and regulations. There are still some countries where they may have rules but not the enforcement. Here is the road statistics for Q3 from gov.uk site

And here is a video from a third world country which will make your day and make you think.

Curious to know where they are from. For pure chaos you want to go to India but traffic never moves fast so never any major crashes.
The other telling thing from the video is that with one exception, everyone at least stops after the accident.
Having driven a fair amount in a developing country I remain amazed that their roads often have no concept of give way. You have two equal sized roads crossing each other and whilst many have traffic lights (often ignored though) many dont. I've asked a couple of friends and relatives who were born and raised there on who legally has right of way and their answer has always been either whoever has the biggest vehicle or the biggest balls.
Though in fairness, cross roads are only one of the most scary thing there. They also have potholes big enough to swallow a small car whole and drink driving whilst illegal is the absolute norm. Oh, and generally its cheaper to bribe the policeman to ignore the fact you don't have a license than it is to go through all the hoops and issues of actually trying to get one without just bribing the official to issue one without a test etc0 -
I think some of those drivers are over here now ( probably illegally) .You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0

I don't know if this is the country that the OP was referring to (at work and YT is blocked), but I have spent a while watching those 'Russian dashcam' videos on Youtube. I find them seriously frightening: massively excessive speeds, macho atitudes, huge head-ons at junctions, pulling across traffic when there is fast traffic approaching. Trucks, police and ambulances seem to be among the worst offenders. They make the Italians look over-cautious. Watch half an hour of those, and then reflect that the standard of driving in the UK is really very, very good.
I never thought I would write that!If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
Those Russian ones are amazing, you never know what the accident is going to be aide from the head on crashes on snowy roads.
There seem to be some very badly designed roads, but generally the worst ones are the foot to the floor to beat a red light merchants. They don't amber gamble, they simply red gamble! Defensive driving can't cope with those lunatics.
In Sri Lanka they go for the system of priority by bullying, they force people off the road to overtake, though ultimately the road speeds are pretty slow, apart from the lunatic express bus drivers who simply sound their horn, flash their lights and plough a furrow, scattering pedestrians, cyclists, cars and sleeping dogs as they pass. Blind bends seem to be a favoured place for overtaking as you can't see oncoming traffic so it can't be there...0
