Cost of putting back picture rails

We are in the process of buying a 1920's house. Originally it has picture rails but the last owner removed them and reskimmed all the walls.
Would you put them back? I like picture rails as they make the rooms look a little larger, and they give character.
Anyone have any idea of what is involved? Would you bother?

If the rest of the room had original features (rose, cornice) i would probably reinstate the picture rail. If not I would have to consider whether it is worth it or if they would look out of place.
I really don't like modern imitation roses, so i wouldn't want to make the place look tacky by putting one of those in.0 -
A fairly simple DIY project. Cut to length, mitre, and glue to wall.No free lunch, and no free laptop

We did this in our house - the original wood that the picture rails had been fixed to were still in place so it was simple to do.
Some of the "picture rails" we found on sale were just ornamental and didn't have the right shape to hang hooks on them.0 -
Thanks. I am convinced. I will put them back.
Probably I will go with the easier option of just glueing in place as I don't intend to actual use them to hang pictures off. It's purely aesthetic.0 -
If you use a grab adhesive then they will be quite strong enough to hang pictures on-assuming that the underlying plaster is sound. No free lunch, and no free laptop
