Wed 26th March - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of big "stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending

  • Thanks for the thread Ziggy!

    I'm having a mini-LBM in the car to work. Looking at my online banking (I'm a passenger lol), just been paid and will be in overdraft tomorrow :(

    It's within my power to get disciplined again so today;

    ● Checked Bank
    ● Lift cash to do me 2 weeks - to avoid spending on my debit card

    Hope everyone has a great day!

    Keep going, you will get there!

    Good morning, let it be a happy day for everyone;0)

    Dept = money spent that we do not have.

    A dept free journey begins with small steps 15 minutes at a time.

    Just put the Ch on an hour early as it it hailstones outside and 15.8C inside.
    I know! just been told to get a jumper on. Well I am waring leggings, trousers, vest, t.shirt and jumper :0(

    Done surveys, post code lottery. Read the daily Mail paper online. Looked at freebie pages.
    Written a list of dinners in freezer. Started a shopping list.
    Made orange jelly for fridge pickers.
    Baked x2 cheese and onion flans for lunches/snacks. A change from sandwiches.

    Knitting and reading kindle.Radio.

    Read the meters and entered online = £20 this week for duel fuel :0)
    I think that is good. many members pay a lot more. I read the energy page.

    Recycling today = washed out marg tub. Finished a small bottle of shower gel DD had and was throwing out. I put it in my bath instead of the usual bubble bath. washed out bottle and saved to refill if we should go away.
    Washed out a plastic freezer bag to reuse.
    Wrote lists on strips of card from food box.

    Dinner = Hm lasagne.
    The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)

    Working at home today!

    My plan is to:

    Not have the heating on at home (got leggings under my jeans to help!)
    Have a home-cooked lunch and tea all from stores and meal-planned
    Air-drying my laundry
    Checked the banking and updated my budget sheets already

    Have a lovely day everyone!
    Debt at LBM July 2013: [STRIKE]£46,085.88[/STRIKE] :eek: Debt today: £36,501.67

    Oooooh, what a cold day. mr f has just texted to say snow & hail where he's working today. Booo! No heating on though. Such a positive change in weekly energy meter readings for last week, I've not weakened & turned it back on/up despite the drop in temperature.
    Only a few bits today as my mind's on other things:
    *Made tomorrow's packed lunch & work snacks.
    *Dinner as per meal plans - something I batch-cooked for the freezer on one of my big cooking days.
    *Did some surveys & cashed in Toluna points for another John lewis voucher.
    *Made a huge batch of tomato pasta sauce for freezer....already got enough home made meatballs in there for an army, so that's one meal completely made for when the hungry hoards ascend over Easter.
    *Checked veggie seedlings. Will need to double-cover stuff in greenhouse tonight as I reckon it's going to be a proper cold one.
    *Turned heated airer off first thing & pegged out large items for a couple of hours to finish drying.
    *Free fitness as going to try a new exercise DVD this afternoon.....the routines in the current one are getting monotonous so time for some variety.
    *Free entertainment as have some recorded TV to catch up with, knitting, library book & other stuff to do.
    *Start getting papers/receipts/brain cells together for my Big Budget Day tomorrow.
    *Ironing - will be switching off for last item as usual.
    Keep your hands on your pennies, people.

  • todays DFW tasks

    take packed lunch to work - Fail, left it on the side at home.
    Won slimmer of the week at fat club - didn't need to drive home for lunch as now have loads of stuff to do me for the next week of dinners.
    picked up another box of toothpaste samples to drop at the food bank (you never know when your gonna need their help)
    organised my meal plan for the next 7 days
    sorted Mummy's Mothers day present and cards from the boys (FREE my favourite word)

    with a bit of luck we will have a little bit of spare money at the end of the month to treat the monsters to a day out :)

    No spend day
    All meals from stores
    No heating on all day
    All lunches prepared for tomorrow
    Meat out of freezer for tomorrow (had to rejig meal plans due to forgetting to take it out yesterday!)
    Checked bank
    Checked pcl

    That's all my tired little brain can think about, off for an early night!

  • I haven't posted on here for about 2 years! But having lapsed and gained a £5k personal loan (ooops!) I have decided to attack my debts head on and clear them for good, with the aim of saving a deposit for a mortgage after that (I have very LOUD neighbours in the flat above me :mad:!)

    So, DFW things today:
    * Re-started my DFW account :j
    * All meals from stores

    * Have been on annual leave today and haven't had the heating on

    * Last night I found a worm (yes, a worm!) in a cauliflower floret when tucking into my tea! It was out of a frozen bag of veg so I took the offending article back to the supermarket this morning and got my money back plus a tenner, which went in my car which was on the red :T

    * NSD other than the "free" petrol

    * Downloaded a great budgeting spreadsheet from the "How do you track your spending" thread

    I'm feeling really positive about saying goodbye to debt for good and eventually getting onto the housing ladder. It is going to be hard but it is achievable... Let's do this!
