Bedford insurance cancellation advice

Hello,

I have a policy which i paid in full since November last year for my work van, i wanted to add a new driver and change my home address. They quoted me £750 to do this on Saturday morning and said they would cancel the policy as i had now informed them of my new address and it was on their system so i paid up. To add the driver was £167 and the rest was for the change of address.

I changed the address for my car which has a much higher theft value than my van and is worth more and that company charged me £30.

I contacted Bedford today to see about cancelling as i ran some new quotes with my new address and they are nowhere near the cost of this so called address change fee. However, they say they can't guarantee how much i will get back and whether or not i will get a percentage of my original policy of £601 and be refunded the £750 from saturday morning or a percentage of the new total of £1350.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

£583 - £75 admin fee? to change address when the total policy was £600 previously? Sounds rather silly.

Doesnt matter what other companies quote. What do Bedford quote for that address and what is their admin fee?

My old car insurance were cheap for all my family. But there were certain postcodes where they just refused to quote on. They just said its pointless wasting their time and yours because you wont get a good price.

Maybe the new postcode is one of those.

The car maybe of a higher value. But vans are probably stolen and broken into more often than cars.

By "they" do you mean Bedford or other brokers/ insurers?

If you mean Bedford themselves are cheaper then you have to remember that they are a broker with multiple insurers on their panel and so any new business quote could be with any one of their insurers. The amendment however would have to be with the same insurer the business was initially placed with.

If you mean other insurers/ brokers, well thats because they are different companies and everyone has their own price. My car to insure is declined by most companies as it doesnt have a tracker and those that do quote range from £650 to over £6,000

Ultimately you could have cancelled the policy on Saturday and immediately gone online and bought a new policy. Technically it would have been illegal for about 30 minutes but nothing would ever have happened in that space of time.

We are where we are though so you need to complain that they will not quote the cost of cancellation. They are just being lazy not working it out for you.
