Car loan PPI?

Options
Hi everyone

I know I'm late to the PPI party, but can you try to reclaim PPI on car finance agreements or is it just bank loans? I bought my car in 2007, but sold it last year, although I still have the paperwork from when I bought it.

Thanks!

  • You can complain about it if it was mis-sold to you and feel you have a valid complaint. If the car dealer sold it. you would complain to them.
  • Morning,

I had a car loan around 12 years ago with a 5 year repayment period, the loan company that was then brought out by Santander.
I have all the info of that loan from my bank, so i looked into whether i was mis-sold PPI. When i contacted Santander they said because the loan was paid off over 6 years ago, they will not hold my records, FULL STOP! is this true? and if not, how do i go about progressing.

If they can find no records then they have to rely on the records you have. If you have no records then its dead in the water.

The other thing to note is that if the car loan was via a dealer then the dealer has the liability. Not the lender. However, most car dealers were not regulated until Jan 2005. So, they can reject the complaint as being pre-regulation.
