MSE News: Energy firms 'charging loyal customers £90 extra'

This home has been with the same supplier for about 10 years
There is not a single tariff in the country that would have been cheaper for that time. For 3 or 4 years of a fixed price deal plenty of companies tried to say we can offer you a better deal, then were surprised to find they could not even get within £100.
Right now it's on the cheapest tariff available from the same company, and there is still no way to save much by switching.
It needed to be changed a few weeks ago as the government forced abolition of the previous tariff and there was a prospect of rates going up quite a lot if it went by default on to the standard tariff.
Perhaps this last point could be something to be highlighted by certain journalists.
HiYa redux,
What was this tariff ? was it for example one of the capped and protected tariff's - for example Scottish Power's 'Fresh Start Tariff' ?Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Yes it's with Scottish Power.
For quite a long time (maybe even 5 years?) it was on a very good fixed tariff and term deal that turned out to beat all others in comparisons by £100 a year, then it was on something similar to Fresh Start0 -

Then your were on their Fresh Start Tariff which was not available to 99.9% of the public. This special social tariff was available to a select few and was guaranteed for the whole period to be ""5% less than their cheapest tariff regardless of how you pay for your electricity"". It was indeed an excellent tariff, but finished 1st March this year.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I don't know the whole picture as I'm not paying the bill here, though I did help by looking up potential replacement tariffs0 -

- its a hard, or rather impossible tariff to follow
- best bet is find the cheapest tariff with any supplier
- then apply for (1) WHD core group and if not (2) WHD broader group
Best of luck !Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
