Why can't I see my videos on SD card?

I take lots of photos and video of my grandchildren, I use a Panasonic TZ30 camera. I then transfer to my desktop via a card reader. Method I use is to open Windows Explorer, then open the SD card to view. I then open a New Folder, transfer into that the photos I want to keep. Then copy that to my Photo Library. For some reason I can see every one of my photos but unable to see the videos on the card. Yet, I take the card out of the reader, insert into camera and there the videos are.

This has only done this in the last week. Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong as I would love to send my daughter the video of her little girls 2nd birthday tea.

Wrong format videos or your PC does not have the correct codecs for those videos .
What format are the videos in .

    Try VLC media player .

Try going into folder view (on the computer) and enabling hidden files and folders.
How to do that varies depending on the Windows version.

Can't see why the videos should be hidden, but it's the only thing I can think of?
Even if Windows couldn't play the videos, they should still be there.
(presume you've checked all folders on the SD card)

Have you altered a setting somewhere that allows you to save the videos on the recorder hard drive and not on the SD card??
Can you view the video on the camcorder without the SD card in it ??
    Just a thought.

    Just enabled 'hidden files'.

Thank you both for taking the time to reply.

No, the videos are not on the camera memory only on the SD card.

    Thanks.

Thank you all for the help and advice! I had a go at using the software (PhotofunStudio) that came with the camera. Bingo, no idea why this works and not my usual way but got there in the end.

    Thanks.

IIRC the TZ cameras put the videos into a different folder to the pictures, I think with my TZ7 the pictures are in the DCIM folder, and the videos in another one (I can't remember it's name at all).

If the videos are in the mpeg format, they're stored with the pictures but if they're in AVCHD (the default, more efficient for HD files)a completely different place. When you open the memory card you should see a folder DCIM which has your images and a folder (may be hidden) called Private, open the latter and then choose BMV and then Stream - in here there should be *.mts files which are your video files. Wikipedia has a picture showing it here:

John, thanks for the info. I followed this and sadly, it did not work for me. The photos are showing but can't see the videos anywhere.
I've used Picasa for a long time to store and edit (basic edit) photo. Im going to have a look on here to see if I should use something else to store both photo and video.

I managed to get over the issue by using the photofunstudio software but Im not keen on it.

    Thanks John and Nilrem.

it's horrible when you have to use the custom software on the cd.
best thing is to access via the software, find a convert option then change to something else.
if you have a bunch of files ending .something then these will be the video files, sometimes you can simply change the end to .mp4 or .avi but best to google video finder and converter.
