Put the Sainsburys whiskey £2,50 voucher through selfscan till at Tesco yesterday and was immediately pounced on by customer service rep . She opened the voucher drawer examined it in detail and told me that ' this voucher would be allowed this time but in future we only accept Tesco vouchers' !!!

I guess it really depends who is serving you at the till.

I've just put through multiple duplicate vouchers, expired vouchers, vouchers for non purchased items etc for a discount of over £15 with no questions asked.

  • The lovely put thru £10 worth of tokens on a £20 spend at Tesco last night - very pleased, I don;t bother with the self scans now, back to picking my checkout person!
  • Had no problems this morning using self service and no signs limiting vouchers on any other till either.

Ok I have to ask. Can you just use any voucher to get money off? Even if you haven't bought that product?

yeah thats the general idea :) its apparently tescos official policy to take any voucher even if you havent bought the product, various people have received emails/letters from tesco head office confirming this (do a search and you will find one that someones posted) though they leave it up to each individual store as to the actual implementation of the policy, i.e how many vouchers you can use, what percentage of your total bill you can pay with vouchers etc...

although their policies also seems to depend on which checkout operator you visit, what phase the moon is in, and whether or not there is frost on the foothills of mount kilimanjaro.

used £12 assorted vouchers in tesco bangor tonight no probs.
Every day above ground is a good one ;)
  • Got £5 off £20 spend with proper vouchers no net ones, supervisor came along and had a good moan at the poor boy at the checkout saying that they are getting too many vouchers through and tesco's are tightening up - lucky for me he had put them through and was taking my money -- I don't think she was that high up as he didn't take a lot of notice but I think tesco are really tightening up on them.

Had a 70p FT coupon turned down yesterday although never had a problem before. The girl at the till said they were really cracking down and staff were getting into trouble for putting too many through. :-/
