Sharp TV problems - repair viable?

Hi!
I recently bought a Sharp 24" TV (model LC-24LE510k) for my son from ebay for £50. A month later the TV won't switch on.
I can try asking for my money back from the vendor, but I guess the response is going to be tough luck.
Would I be correct in the suspicion it's not worth the cost of getting fixed (and any ideas where in South Manchester does do TV repairs if it is viable?)
Thanks
Kevin

Silly question first, have you checked the fuse in the plug?
But otherwise would suspect the cost would not be worth it, keep searching ebay for a power supply, search ebay using the model number (including description) till one pops up, this one has ended but gives you an idea..
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TV-Part-17PW80-V2-040511-20563043-24-LCD-Power-Supply-for-LC-24LE510K-PTP-/400659231664
Changing power supply's is fairly simple and usually just requires a screw driver, just be careful, even when they have been turned off, some of the electrical components can give you a nasty shock, always hold the parts by the edges.
Just to add I am guessing its the power supply because you get nothing from the tv at all, if the led light comes on or you get sound it could still be something else.0 -
Hi!
Thanks for the reply.
The fuse is fine.
After a lot of swearing and cursing and sacrificing of my clubcard I managed to get the back off. As you'd correctly identified the power supply is a Vestel 17PW80. The capacitors look fine, which I gather is the usual thing that goes although http://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=28778 suggests the diodes are a regular source of problems.
Partmaster want £23 including delivery for a new PSU (http://www.partmaster.co.uk/search.pl?t=94936.6304054806&query=17PW80&x=0&y=0) which I think is the right one even though they don't say it is. I'll give it a whirl and report back
Thanks again

Hi!
In case anyone is interested in this post or stumbles over it via a web search I thought I'd better update it.
Before I bought a new power supply I followed the advice in http://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=28778 and had a look at the three diodes which were identified as flakey. In order to test them you have to cut at least one end and as per the advice one of the diodes had indeed shorted.
I decided to be 'brave' and blew the dust off my soldering iron, removed the old diodes and replaced them with ones acquired from ebay for £3.75 or so for 5.
I can't tell you the surprise when the TV burst into life when I reassembled it. :-) I hope that helps someone

Fantastic. Despite everything becoming more integrated these days with more chips and fewer components, stuff can be brought down by cheapo capacitors, diodes and others that aren't quite up to the job but saved a few pennies at manufacture. I've been able to revive a Panasonic Freeview recorder and KEF subwoofer for, like, £2 and a bit of googling and soldering.0

Well done. I recently fixed a "dead" TV for a neighbour. In this case it was two capacitors which were obviously bulging (but I tested ALL four next to the heat sink with my ESR meter and replaced them all). Total cost for low ESR capacitors was about £8. The neighbour gave me £40. He had been quoted £200 by a repair shop.
