Problems with Samsung Galaxy s3

Hope someone can help. My phone keeps freezing on the black screen, I can see I have an email or text as I can see the alert light flashing, but when I press the button at the bottom nothing happens. I have to take the battery out and switch it back on, then it works ok. This is happening at least once a day.

Also, some text messages come through about four times, dont know if this is a problem with me or the sender.

Do I need to restore to factory settings?

Backup data and factory reset to clear any user errors .

Thanks. I have tried to back everything up to Kies Air but keep getting error messages.

I want to make sure I have everything backed up properly with other methods, just in case

Dropbox has photos stored
Amazon Cloud player has downloaded music stored
downloading other music from phone onto laptop with media player
SMS backup for text messages
....and hopefully google has contacts and apps stored

Is there anything I have forgotten? Can I save the folders I have made on pages to group all apps etc together?

KIES is the spawn of satan. Get a decent backup application.

I have connected Samsung phones to the computer KIES says it cannot find them yet i can access them in windows explorer.

I gave up with it completely.
