There's no such thing as register disabled anymore, unless he's deaf or sight impaired.
If you have a house adapted for a disabled person, you can receive a council tax discount. This is non-income based.
He's entitled to an assessment from social services and so are you, as his carer.
Your wrong about regstering disabled, it depends on your local council/LA wether they still have a disabled register or not, mine do and they are still taking entries.
The rules on council tax reductions are very specific, there is no discount just for having an adapted house, there must be room to use a wheelchair indoors or the property must have a second kitchen or batroom adapted for disability or a treatment room in short.0 -
Hi Frugal Fraggle, Hunnibunnis and all
I was diagnosed with FND a few years ago by the brilliant Dr Stone.
Regarding council tax and adaptations. Firstly you should get 25% discount if your registered disabled or in receipt of DLA and also your local council can possibly fund 80% or even 100% of adaptations to you home. I got a wet room done but due to husbands income we paid 20%. I have a self propelling wheelchair that I bought off eBay in great condition for £60. With the wheelchair at least indoors I still have the independence when I need it to potter around and also use in the garden but usually when going out for long periods my husband or friend pushes me along.
FND is a hard condition to diagnose so we're tested for MS ( I actually was as mum has it) it is quite a debilitating disability that you cannot tell how you are going to be day by day or even from the morning to afternoon!!
It is only recently that Dr Stone and his colleagues put a name to this disability which they were looking more and more into at the Neuro Sciences Unit at the Western General in Edinburgh and Dr Stone has written a lot of papers on this disability which you can find online.
Dr Stones site neurosymptoms.org is a great site to read and this site is solely dedicated to FND. Also with FND you experience non epileptic episodes so there is a site called NEAD Trust that is also helpful.
I hope I've been of a little help to you all.
Just remember we may be disabled but we are still a person and fighters.:) xx0 -
