Hello.
I am trying to help my mum save money.
She lives on a caravan park so cant get the normal services. The caravan park will allow only their services and charge the earth for it.
What I am asking is if my mother tethers she will be able to get the internet far cheaper than she is presently paying. The only problem she has an old not wireless computer. I was wondering how to make her computer wireless....id there something that she can plug in to pick up the internet from the phone?
Thank you

Get a usb adapter to get wireless

What phone tariff is she having at the moment? Not every mobile provider allow tethering.0 -
Or tether via a cable?0
-
Or if you're in a decent coverage area, get a USB mobile broadband dongle and connect using that.0

she is on 3 and they allow tethering so should be ok for limited usage0

^^ Something like that for the PC.
And something like this -- put in your SIM card and it acts as a wireless router:

I can tether my phone to my home pc with the USB connector, but obviously it's a bit slow, and the data costs if I went over my monthly limits are a bit expensive, but hey.
I used to have a 3 dongle on a rolling monthly contract to connect to my laptop, and it would also work in any usb0 -
As esuhl suggested, definitely get a MiFi box. It's bascially a router that gets it's internet connection from the SIM card you plug into it.
However it also has the added bonus of being able to locate it near windows or perhaps even attach it to the roof to maximise the signal of the internet connection.0 -

Thanks for your reply....
This looks good but my mum is nearing 80 so removing a sim would be like asking her to jump the Grand Canyon!!
Could this be inserted into the computer to receive the tethering signal from the phone without removing the sim.
Thank you0 -
Oh, hang on -- it looks like you should be able to set up the mobile as a wireless access point. Then all you'd need is a wireless USB adaptor (like the one suggested by Cisco001 in post 2) for the laptop.

Or do the same thing via Bluetooth:
