Perhaps time to educate yourself on the forum rules, you know, being pleasant, tolerant maybe? Perhaps get yourself a beer or a hug from somewhere if today has just been 'one of those'... You can have one of my beers if you need it, mum always said to be kind, and something about the cost of manners... X
It's called free speech, my post was in no way abusive & I have plenty of beer!0 -

I didn't say it was abusive, I said it was unpleasant and a bit of a rant. On those points, I stand firm. So if you have enough beer, do you want a cuddle then? X0 -

The op came on here with exerts of emails with laws the op knows nothing about, the op didn't even bother to find out the correct way to cancel (took me 3 seconds) and comes on here asking about rights etc.
These are simple things to do I just wonder how some people seem to go such a strange way about life and complicate things so much then wonder why it's all gone wrong?
I think this is a bit harsh, the problem really stems from consumer programmes which do not tell the viewer the full facts surrounding their consumer rights and what can and cant not used under either DSR or SOGA and so on.
This then leads people to assume they are covered via such legislation as they have not fully read up on them and followed some advice from the telly/Radio - including you Lewis - which isnt really their fault.
dont cuddle him Lainy - he smells of wee and stale cigs
Dont rock the boat

To be honest the forum has served it's purpose.
ML has made his money and has already moved on.
In my eyes the forum team are now there to PPR people. They have long done so with scant regard to people's contribution to the forum.
The weekly news letter is a total joke. The majority is usually a rehash of previous. Forum members are now being asked to read it in advance and flag up corrections...what are MSE paid staff doing?
Oh and as an aside maybe this year can someone in MSE Towers remember when St Andrews day is...unlike last year?0 -

I think what happens is people read/hear about consumer laws (the information will be correct) but then they forget most of it but then try and quote it to retailers to suit themselves.
My annoyance of this is as working in retail I get laws quoted to me that vary from being completely wrong to not existing at all. I have no choice to correct them as I won't do what they want as it's often quite ridiculous and way beyond any goodwill policy. What happens is though once people have said something they don't like being wrong so they stick to it even though it's wrong. They then get annoyed but it's all of their own doing. They must know in the back of their heads they don't really know what they're on about so why even try which will more than often just end up backfiring as you'll be annoying the person you supposedly want to help you.0 -
I also work in retail and to be honest t most employees do not have a full grasp of the law.Money-Saving-King wrote: »I think what happens is people read/hear about consumer laws (the information will be correct) but then they forget most of it but then try and quote it to retailers to suit themselves.

The above email was sent with full knowledge of it being incorrect.
I only came on to ask if the fact that they acknowledged my cancellation request warranted a refund. A helpful user advised me and it was resolved.
Instead, you and the geordie guy (though hes probably just !!!!ed off because our season is over) pre-judge... a fact of life is that consumers lie and I was no exception here.0 -
a fact of life is that consumers lie and I was no exception here.
Perhaps that should be, "A fact of life is that people lie."
I challenge anyone reading this to truthfully say they have never told a lie. Everybody lies. However, some lie infrequently, others do it as second nature, or possibly even first nature. These would be the compulsive liars.
The dangerous liars are the ones who sound plausible and lie so well others believe them. At what point they become conmen / conwomen I am unsure. If you want proper advice, please consult a legal professional. I am not one! Thanks.0 -

The long and the short of it is what I was saying. When customers lie and get found out it's hardly going to do them any favours. The op seems to think nothing of this which is a little worrying!0 -

Do you not address people directly?
You are a pretty rude person for the virtue of not speaking directly to me and for making assumptions about people.
If you work in retail then you know people lie to get things resolved. I only did theabove to test how other companies deal with such requests because in my current line of work I get the occasional dsr complaint and am eager to see how it works in practice with other companies. Im not arsed about 15 quid but upon acknowledging my cancellation request I was wondering if they may be obliged to refund.
Fact of life is that consumers lie and I dont hold any grudges aside from weeding out the obvious idiots.. it is a dog eat dog world and to be honest im a very hard working and fair minded individual who has some level of personal respect for people who try such claims because it keeps me busy and they are having a go at it. Truthfully I dont need to justify myself to someone on an internet forum so im gonna leave it at that.0
