Windows 8.1 64 bit and HP laserjet 1005 again

I have a spare computer so I downloaded and installed Windows 8.1 64 bit on it.
It took some research but I managed it.
I then connected the printer directly to the computer via USB and it appeared in devices and printers but it would not print as Windows 8.1 couldn't find any drivers.
I even tried to manually install drivers but again there were none.
I also have a Kodak ESP 5250 printer and scanner and again there are no drivers for 64 bit Windows 8.1.
I repeated what I did on my Windows 8.1 32 bit computer and I was able to print with no problem.
So given that there is no way that my 2 printers will work with Windows 8.1 64 bit, either connected via USB or parallel port or networked through another computer, will, as someone suggested, one of these make them work?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/b?ie=UTF8&node=430577031
or will they only work if the printer is recognised by Windows 8.1 64 bit and how can I find out if a print server will work without wasting any money?
Or is there any software I can install on an old Dell laptop that will act as a print server?

You don't need drivers , unless you want to access the HP utilities. All you need to do is share the printer on the PC it is connected to and then add a networked printer on the "remote" PC. Another option is if your router has a USB port for remote printing plug the printer to the router and add it as a remote printer on each PC.retiredin2011 wrote: »I have a spare computer so I downloaded and installed Windows 8.1 64 bit on it.

Just do what I did, buy a new printer.0

You could install Linux on the old Dell laptop and have that act as a print server. Good luck with that.
The compatibility list for the PS310U print server http://uk.tp-link.com/resources/document/TL-PS310U_V2_Compatibility_List_140314.xls says that it supports the 1005 for Windows 8/8.1.0 -
You still need the relevant drivers available on the shared PC for download by the 'remote' PC for this to work.debitcardmayhem wrote: »You don't need drivers , unless you want to access the HP utilities. OP Have you tried this driver from HPThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

That's a P1005 !!!!!!, different from a 1005 apparently. Already been suggested on the OPs earlier thread.0

OP Have you tried this driver from HP
I had in the past but as it is not the correct driver for my printer it does not work.
Just to make sure I again downloaded it and tried to use it to install my 1005 printer (not P1005) but as I suspected, my printer was again not detected.
There are 2 HP 1005 printers, mine is HP laserjet 1005 series the other is P1005 series, they do not have compatible drivers. You still need the relevant drivers available on the shared PC for download by the 'remote' PC for this to work.
Glad someone understands how printers work
I will just have to keep a Windows 32 bit computer spare to print my 100's of documents a week until my supply of toner runs out, it should only take another couple of years. :rotfl:
The reason I have all this toner is the company I used to work for went bust a week after someone ordered 12 dozen toner cartridges and the boss said take what you want instead of wages.:)0 -
Sorry about that mistakeretiredin2011 wrote: »There are 2 HP 1005 printers, mine is HP laserjet 1005 series the other is P1005 series, they do not have compatible drivers. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
