Letter from DWP saying there has been overpayments of benefits and demanding refund

Official errors were normally only recoverable if it was something obvious like being paid for the same period twice; a payment not being reduced in circumstances where the recipient knew it should have been reduced; paid for a dependent they didn't have etc.
Has something changed?
Or does "It was entirely their fault. I believe they added some supplement to my Income Support benefit incorrectly" mean something like a premium was added based on information supplied that wasn't entirely accurate? Perhaps that ship has sailed but if it really was entirely DWP error, that detail may have been lost somewhere along the way. A reminder that it was their error may mean it's not pursued so vigorously, if at all.0
