I have a budget of £300 (may be able to put another £50 but don't want to)
I don't need a one with a built in DVD/Bluray, but it must have coaxial inputs and support Dolby digital and be at least 5.1.
Considering my budget will I be best getting an all in one, or go for a home cinema amp and seperate speaker package?
Any suggestions welcome.

If at first you don't succeed, maybe bomb disposal isn't the best career choice.

Hi
I would go for a separate AV system and speakers every time.
I currently have an Onkyo Amp, Tannoy speakers and an Onkyo subwoofer.
Get a system with HDMI inputs and then you connect all your KIT to the amp and the amp to the TV.
Most Onkyo support ARC (Audio Return channel) which means you can then control the volume with your normal TV remote.
If you dont mind adding £19 then this is a great package

That's not what ARC is. ARC is, on a TV AND amp that support it, the sound from the TV going back down the HDMI lead to the Amp, saving you one cable. Most Onkyo support ARC (Audio Return channel) which means you can then control the volume with your normal TV remote.
Anyway, you want to get in cheap. Don't buy an all in one system, buy a package. That means you get a proper amp along with some proper speakers. Great connectivity and upgradeability, and I'll bet, better sound too.
Here's a Pioneer for £250

Loads of HDMI inputs, plus a coax and optical digital in (what do you need coax for?)
You can do better though. Do you have any old speakers lying around? You could use them as rear surrounds. You could also go without a centre speaker at the start. That's better than using a cheapo one.
Yamaha amp £170

Plus Yamaha speaker package £120

or good stereo speakers £120

plus a sub £73.50

or a mixture of the above. Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS and all the other fancy modes (which you can get for cheap as chips these days) are useless through poor speakers.0 -
consider the Denon DHT-T100 it is a speaker base which your tv sits on and it gives a pretty good range of sounds all without extra speakers and wires and is bluetooth capable,. £250 I've got one and am quite impressed with it."Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0
