Need advice

Hi, im not sure if this is the right place to post please feel free to move me on if needed.
I received a letter today from hmrc addressed to me with the correct name and address ni number etc, but giving me a paye coding notice, saying i am employed by someone and owe them money, even has an employers name on it. i have been self employed for fifteen years , have an accountant and all my tax is paid and up to date. rang the tax office to explain this is nothing to do with me, the person i spoke to said he would remove it, but i was only on the phone a matter of minutes and he didnt do any further security checks. Should i be worried? has this happened to anyone else?

  • Hopefully that's the end of it but just in case it's not, keep a written note of the details of the call - when you called, who you spoke to, what they said.
