  • Oooh god, just went to pay the Next payment for this month, and they've increased the limit by £2500 bloody hell man!!

They always seem to do that when you're either nearing the limit (which makes sense to encourage you to keep spending) or start paying it off (not sure what their logic is there ;)). I think my credit card limits doubled over the course of my paying them off - I just left them alone as it meant my credit looked better on paper because I was using less of my whole credit allowance, but as lucielle said you can ask them to restrict it again.

    Good evening all,

I hope everyone had a good Christmas :)

I've sorted our spreadsheet out for 2016, we have added to our starting debt a smidge, but I am not gonna let it bother me, as it was things we had to have (the washer being one of them) and it's on 0%

I'm ready to super boss this debt away :) We can pay at least £700 a month off the debt and most of it will come off the balances (as we only have a 2 cards on 6.9% APR's, the rest is all on 0%)

First one we are attacking is MBNA, it is 0% but the deal ends the soonest on November 2016. I don't know what they do with regards to extra payments to the account, whether they still take the minimum payment when you pay extra or not, I still want the minimum to be taken, so I will go have a read on their website.

I'm excited cos we are in a position to finally buy some decent storage furniture for our living room (we've been making do in the nearly seven years we have lived here) so we are going to get that soon, then paint the living room, and we will finally have a lovely, tidy, cosy living room, and the kids things will have proper places to go, and be out of sight once they have gone to bed :)

Here's to 2016, I hope you all have a fabulous year.

  • If your MBNA is on 0% it's possibly better to save the money in an interest-bearing current account until October/November and then pay it off in one go. We did that with our card and earned ~£200 interest (using regular savers as we had more than a year at 0%). May as well get free money if you can. :)

Not sure about the overpayments, DH phoned up to make the final balance payoff - otherwise we just did the minimum every month.

Thanks I will look into that for the future, at the minute though I am not sure I trust ourselves to do that lol we are focused on paying it off, but I think in the beginning we need to actually see the figures come down, maybe next year I will look into that as it is a very good suggestion :)

Well we had a lovely family day today, went off to Keilder Forest as they had Stick Man trails, kids had a fab time :)

And I've just made my first overpayment of 2016, just overpaid MBNA with £100 :) woo hoo

I Hope everyone is having a good new years eve :) I will be in bed way before midnight lol

    Happy new year everyone xxx

That's the main reason we did a regular saver. It's locked away for a year so no way to fritter it away before that. (Suppose we could have lowered the standing order to deposit less each month, but that would defeat the point.)

I will look into it :) I can't do a year lock in for this one as the 0% runs out Nov this year, but Deffo will when we move onto the next ones's

    How is 2016 treating everyone?

We still need to take our decorations down. Need to go to B&Q and buy the paint etc to paint the sitting room, and we've decided on colours for the shelving units so need to get them ordered.

Dreading going back to work on Tuesday, mainly for having to get me and the kids all ready and out the house by 6.30am lol
