Looking at buying an Xbox, any recommendations?

For the sake of controversy, I'll stick my oar in and say you should consider getting a PS3 instead of an Xbox :rotfl:
Either way, you can pick them up second hand very cheap these days.
If you go for a PS3, get a slim or superslim (500gb model rather than the 4gb). As others have said, a 250gb Xbox slim model would be better than the 4gb. For either console, 4gb hard drive is useless! PS3s are easier to upgrade the HDD than Xboxes as any standard 2.5" HDD will do. I've got 1TB in my PS3. You can't get any bigger than 320gb in an Xbox.0 -

First, I'm a complete gaming novice, bar owning a PS1 when I was a kid! I'm looking at buying an Xbox, probably a 360, definitely not forking out for an Xbox One. Can anyone give a recommendation on a good place to buy one, or a cheap offer? As far as I know I need the Xbox itself, cables and I'd like two controllers, plus obviously individual games. If I'm missing something let me know of course.
In addition, does anyone have Xbox Live, and would you consider it worth it?
Thank you!
I can't post links as the site won't let me but type in 250gb Xbox 360 holiday bundle into tesco direct.
Good deal this. In addition you can use your clubcard, maybes use quidco or top cashback, and if I'm ever buying anything from tesco direct I always look on the coupon websites cos sometimes you get £5 or £10 off.
Don't buy a used console. You don't know what kind of life it's had before you get it. It may of been abused
Also don't be fooled into buying a 4gb console. There's not enough memory to save games.
Xbox live is ace. I love it. There's always deals on the web, never buy it direct from Microsoft. Try CDkeys or zaavi, they are about 25 quid for a 12mth membership.0 -
What??? I have the 360 and the xbox one (from launch) and haven't touched the 360 since then, despite thinking I might go back to play GTA..
Apart from improved graphics, nothing really draws me into buying an Xbox One.
I probably will get one later this year, when more "exclusives" come out for it, but at the moment I'll carry on playing my 360.
I would've thought they would sell a lot more if the Xbox one was backward compatible. They are seriously missing a trick on that one.Ryan0 -
Yeh shame about that. PS4 is also not backward compatible. Deliberate corporation policy to make extra $$$ by selling old games again in their ps4/definite/ultimate/classic/collectors/younameit editions.
Sony's even going to extra lengths with setting up paid streaming service with ps3 titles for ps4 to ensure people pay again for games they might have owned on ps3 some time ago. Extra chip on the circuit board would be so much easier0 -
If you buy an Xbox 360 you have to buy SKYRIM......It's one of the best games everWe’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I've had every console going and recently moved on to Xbone. You can pickup a pre-owned 360 in game for about £80 and that is with a 20gb hard drive. You wont need more than 20gb and it will come with a controller. With xbox live it has a lot of life left in it with games like CoD and titanfall and Fifa if you like Fifa ultimate team online is pretty good and will keep you playing for a long time. Just make sure you buy pre-owned because xbox 360 is known for its red ring of death i had it 4 times. All pre-owned 360's will have had the problem fixed so it wont happen again.0

20GB wont be enough if the OP downloads/installs games that require say 5gb of space plus the system requires semof the space too.
Not all pre owned 360's will have had the RROD fixed, some may have been traded in before the error happened.0 -
Some may also have been traded in after being banned from Xbox Live. The console will be permanently banned regardless of what gamertag you're trying to use. It's not worth the risk.Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?
A: It goes without saying that this site's about MoneySaving.
Q: Why are some Board Guides sometimes unpleasant?
A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.0
