Looks like Bt are migrating all those btconnect email accounts to outlook.com - I discovered on Friday, when trying to figure out why the emails accounts are disappeared from a bt business account.

My question is a simple one.

With outlook.com, is it compulsory to use IMAP?

I set the the new account up with POP3 but it's not clearing the emails off the server. And yip I did untick the box, 'leave a copy on the server.'

This page may be helpful. (outlook.com is just the latest brand name for what used to be called Hotmail)

No it isn't. At least I have a personal Outlook.com account and it works fine with POP3. I don't have it set to clear emails off the server though.

However, if I go into email settings, in the Outlook.com website, there's an option called "Connect devices and apps with POP".

Within this screen is an option to control whether devices which connect via POP are allowed to delete messages - I think that's what you need to look for.
