Unwanted programme with AVG free version

I had free AVG anti virus software on my laptop. I uninstalled it whilst checking an internet connection problem. I am now trying to install AVG Free again, but when I get to the download page I can't download without first downloading RegcleanPro registry cleaner. I don't want this unpopular programme. How can I get a clean AVG download without this add-on?
I was downloading from the official AVG site.

    sure it's not an advert?

avast is better, untick chrome during installation and click stay with basic protection when prompted

No it's not an advert - it's a download window that appears when you click to download AVG. There is no option to decline. I decided to download it and uninstall it later, but after it downloads - that's it, you cannot proceed to the AVG download. Tried to uninstall it and got error message saying uninstall not possible because of corrupted file. So I went into my hard disc files and delted it from there.
If I untick Chrome during installation of Avast, does this mean that it will not offer protection when browsing with Chrome browser?

Please stop posting links to 3rd party websites to download software. I always recommend downloading it from the manufacturers website. There you can be sure it is the latest version and is not tampered with.

It IS an advert. The real download button is near the top and has the words "Download Now" in the picture. Click on it and wait until the download starts. Don't click anything else on the opening page.

There is an ad banner at the bottom which looks like this

    10286241434836229585

It's a bit sneaky and you fell for it. This is usally a proctise of those 3rd party download sites.

Edit: I've just seen the same banner appears on the opening page when you click "Download Now". Don't click on it, just wait a few seconds. If it still doesn't open, click "Your download will begin in a moment. If it doesn't, restart the download." below the banner.

The question remains, do you trust a company which uses such sneaky practices to generate revenue?

    please mind your own business.

There is a valid reason I choose filehippo, it doesn't have adverts like many other download sites so people get the software that is intended, not some rogue crap from an advert

    and

avast, avg, and many others redirect to cnet - a third party website,, with unwanted extra's

Don't find any button like you describe tronator. From avg.com there are a couple of download pages for the FREE version. One gives a two column list showing the features of the Free version versus the Full version. Each column has a green shield at the top to click one and the download page appears. This has a 'Download Now' button at the top and another at the bottom saying 'Free Download'. BOTH these lead to the same page where you have to download RegCleanPro before you can go any further.

OK - finally managed to find my way through the minefield of spurious adware and software links to get to the correct AVG installation window.
AVG now back on my laptop. It seemed a lot easier when I first installed it a few months ago!!

Do you genuinely believe, what you wrote? The ads might not as intrusive or sneaky as on other sites, but they're there. On the page for the Avast download I see banners for Norton and AVG.

Usually it's best to download directly from the manufacturer. AVG is one of there very few examples who try to sneak in other software. But you post these Filehippo links wherever you can.
