Cancel Policy

Options
Hiya, could you please advise me? I have made a claim on my insurance, which has been approved.Im now waiting on the work to be done.. Then payment to be made..I was always planning on cancelling my policy and getting insurance somewhere else once this was dealt with,as the premium has been way too high, and of course now it has went up to over £1,000,for home and contents insurance.Do i need to wait any time after my claim to cancel my policy? My policy is with Halifax Insurance,i have asked for a quote from them as a new customer and it is a fraction of what they are charging me,i have also had quotes from other companies, which make my premium seem extortionate.I have been with them for 7 years and this is my first claim.. Thanks a lot, regards Geraldine

You can cancel when you want to. Does not matter that the claim is still in progress. You just need to advise new insurers of the claim.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

No, though most Home insurers wont touch someone with an open claim.

Remember that if you cancel after a claim you still have to pay for the full years cover

1k for b+c? Are you claiming regularly?

Hi,Thanks for responding, could you clarify a bit more please? I dont know what you mean,I think i am still in the'cooling off period'before renewal at the minute, will i not be able to cancel? and do you think i should wait until claim has been fully settled before i do anything else? Thanks again G :)

Sounds more like the OP is auto-renewing....

In the policy year you made the claim you can cancel the policy but will receive no refund.

If the policy has renewed then you are in your next policy year and you can indeed cancel that policy and get any refund due

If it hasnt renewed yet but will shortly and you want to go else where then just contact them and advise you want to allow the policy to lapse and not renew.

Home insurers are more twitchy than Motor and often will not allow someone with an open claim to switch to them.

Hiya, thanks for responding :) Believe it or not No,this is my first claim, after being with them for all this time,...Im very naive when it comes to money matters, but as the premium got more expensive,i began to question the very high price, and i have asked a lot of people how much they pay i was horrified to hear it was a fraction of what im paying Halifax! I got an online quote from them enquiring as a 'new customer' and this quote was a fraction again!!I feel like i have been fool paying this much and dont want to be doing it for another 7 years, Thanks Geraldine :)
