Evening, I know this may seem odd considering you posted about your Hitachi MC300 many years ago, but I've just moved to a place where this combi-oven is the only form of cooking and I cannot find an instruction manual anywhere (online included!)

I was wondering if you still had yours I could view (maybe as a PDF attachment), or if you could explain how the oven works as I'm reluctant to try 'trial and error' approach as the oven is not mine.

Many help you could give would be much appreciated.

    Kind regards.

If you use it as an oven it takes exactly the same time as a larger oven would take (just uses less electricity as it's heating a smaller space). For example if I was cooking oven chips and on the back of the packet it said 220 for 25mins then I would type in the temperature and 25 mins and put them in and cook. I never bothered preheating the oven and everything took as long as the back of the packet or recipe said, sometimes 5 mins less.
The combi does mean that you can use it as a grill, oven or microwave but you can also select other options. For example, you can cook jacket potatoes where you type in the weight of the potato and then it microwaves for part of the time and then finishes off with convection heat so that the skin crisps up but it's a lot faster than just putting them in a normal oven. A 250g potato takes about 12 mins. Or you can choose to cook something using the convection heat and then for the last 10 mins brown it under the grill.

What sort is that please? I have a Panasonic and am wondering if it'd do that with jacket spuds? Does it automatically change from microwave to conventional?

This thread is over 3 years old so you may not get a reply.

I've never understood why very old threads are suddenly brought back to the fore years after the event?

  • I have had Panasonic combi microwaves for a long number of years. Most of them have a programme to cook jacket spuds with crisp skins, you just enter the weight of the spuds, the microwave calculates the size of the spuds and cooks them accordingly.

I have a cooker in my kitchen with 2 ovens, I have never used either of them, just use the hob, I would rather have had a cupboard under the hob, but the space and wiring was already there.

I cook anything from a turkey to rashers of bacon using the various options, You can roast a chicken in half the time it takes in a normal oven. Mine does not have a turntable either, a glass dish, a wire shelf and a solid shelf. I would not buy and other microwave, mine has seen me through many years. The first one I had I bought in 1994. It gave up the ghost in 2000, I replaced it and that one died a death in June this year.
  • Deleted_User could I please ask which Panasonic combi microwave you have ?

My microwave is very old, I also have an old Tefal mini oven. When either / both die I think a combi microwave will the answer.
    Thankyou

  • My microwave is a Panasonic NN-CF853.

I got it from AO, ordered it one day it arrived the next. If you go on the Panasonic website you will find all the different models, then do a search for the best price. There is one above mine, I read the comments and decided on the one I ordered.

I know mine will give up soon, probably on Christmas day :D think I will look in the January sales. It will also give me more worktop space having one combi microwave.

When one of my microwaves packed up I bought a combination oven to replace it. I only used the convection a couple of times and decided it wasn't worth it. Maybe it was just me, but I didn't like it at all, too much of a hassle to clean before using it as a microwave as well as trying to remember which buttons to press or what container to use.

Hi all, thought I'd post on an already available thread instead of starting a new one (mods please tell me if this isn't what's normally done, relatively new to being this forum-user :/): could anyone recommend a combination microwave oven  please? I'd ideally like a relatively quiet/less noisy one but I don't really want to compromise on quality or affordability for that. I hear Panasonic has gotten a lot of love, but that was bac in 2017 on this forum and just wanted to see if there are any specific updates? Help would be much appreciated :-)
Hope everyone is staying safe! Many thanks.

ETA: main function would be for microwave and occasional use of the oven, I rarely grill

It might be best to start a new thread,  as people may see the old stuff and not get to your post.
I have an old delonghi combination.  I use it everyday. And rarely use my normal oven. Mine doesn't need the glass turntable taking out and it's all metal inside so easy to clean. I don't use the grill, I have a toaster.
