Best insurance to go for?

Options
I have been getting quotes for switching insurer for my Buildings & Contents, as I realised I'm paying way to much (£54 a month).

I am unsure as to whether to go for a policy that includes legal protection and do I really need accidental damage?

The best quotes that have come up are for Legal & General and Hastings Direct.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks, but that doesn't answer my query does it? Go compare is just a comparison website which I've already been on (Compare the market).

I have just gone onto go compare and there is an option for cover for other items, but angling equipment is not listed and we need cover for this, whereas on Compare the market, it is.

Legal Expenses TYPICALLY gives you access to a 24/7 legal advice line on any subject. It will also cover the cost of pursuing a claim against another party on a number of subjects (employment, property, contract/consumer & injury)

Obv up to you if you feel that you could ever use either free legal advice or if you are the sort to want to pursue someone if your wronged or just let it slide.

Accidental damage, again, if you tripped whilst carrying a washbucket or bowl of water etc and fried your TV, stereo, DVD player etc. Do you want insurance to cover this or do you just see it as an excuse to upgrade them all and you've money in the bank to cover it?

Are you considering "trace & access" cover?

The better plans include it, the cheaper stripped out options won't. This means finding a leak, fixing it and making good afterwards will be covered.

  • legal expenses on home insurance covers such things as residential disputes, consumer disputes, nuisance, trespass or any help with home claims. If you don't have it you would be liable to deal with such things yourself and although there is a certain level of free legal advice, to get anything really dealt with you are going to have to pay.

Accidental damage is a personal requirement. On buildings it means any damage you cause accidentally to your home, ie being up in the loft and putting your foot through the ceiling or hanging a picture and damaging the wall.
On contents it is more thorough cover ie iron being dropped on the carpet, spilt wine etc- you damaging your contents accidentally.

Legal and General are a reputable company where as hastings direct do tend to have a worse reputation. When doing it online though you are taking that risk, where as through a broker you have the protection from them with any problems with the Insurance company, or them dragging their heels with a claim.
    Hope this helps.
