Claiming from House Insurance for lost mobile

Hi,
I have lost my mobile and have raised a claim with the house insurance company, they said this is covered and a claim can be made. The only problem is they need a crime reference number.
I lost the phone on holidays and never thought to report it whilst i was away, they now wont take a statement from me as i have to be there in person and my local police wont take it either as it is out of their area.
Is it likely my insurance company will pay out without this or is there any way i could strengthen my claim without this?
i have recently just started a new 2yr contract for an iphone 5 :-(

Do you really need to claim on Home Insurance. With the excess and future premium increases, it may not be worth it. Was there any other Insurance for the phone ?
I can't see that you have to report the loss in person. If this was in the UK, it is often civilian staff that answer the phone and not a Police Officer. You should try again and you should be able to register a report of a loss. If you lost the phone and it was not stolen, it just reporting the loss to the Police and not a crime events as such. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
would this effect the house insurance much?
I have other insurance on the phone but it doesn't cover loss or theft so I cant claim.
I lost it in New York and I rang and they said there was nothing they could do as I had to make a signed statement in person, I even suggested making a statement over the phone signing it and emailing it to them or something but they said no0 -
Only way to find out, is to get a quote with a claim and see how much it changes. It will be a general guide, as renewals tend to be different to a new policy.
Are you sure a mobile phone Insurance does not cover loss or theft ? Seems a bit odd. Perhaps cover outside of the country is limited ?
If you cannot report the loss, then you are stuffed. as you won't be able to claim on any Insurance.
Make sure the phone is totally disconnected from any network, as if anyone is using it, you could be liable. You need to report the loss to the network you were on.The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. I have blocked the phone and done everything else just stuck with this crime reference number.
I have phones 4 u insurance, I have always had my insurance with them and when I took out my new contract they explained their insurance policy didn't cover loss or theft I always meant to get around to changing my insurance to one that did cover these but looks like I left it too long!!
I really cant afford a new phone and of course cant get out of my contract I just find it hard to believe that there is no way round this, cant believe I can report it over the phone to new York!0 -
Ask the police to confirm in writing that you have attempted to report the loss but they cannot accept this without you being there in person. This should be sufficient (the policy requirement is usually that the loss has been reported to the police, not that you have a crime reference number).0

I think I did mention this to them aswell but maybe I will try again, Surly they could just write a letter/email saying that I have tried to report it0

Blocking it will be useless,it'll work regardless, this is where the majority of blocked fones end up abroad.Official MR B fan club, dont go............................0
