Very long and drawn-out story short - my daughter's maths class in secondary school this year hasn't had a great deal of support from the teaching staff (I've raised this several times and am waiting for a face-to-face meeting with the Head of Maths for the school next week).

I'm not a maths whizz, so I'm looking for some recommendations of online resources where she could brush up and test her knowledge.

I've found this -

http://uk.ixl.com/math/year-8

which looks good for starters, does anyone have any recommendations?

eta - i've found some year 8 test papers too, so we'll start revision on them this week.

We used to use bitesize a lot.
  • Does your daughter's school subscribe to My Maths? If so, you should be able to access it at home too. My daughter who's in Y9 has found it a really useful resource.

She's used the Lett's revision guides in the past too.

I was going to ask whether they use My Maths at school too.

It's a great resource, teachers can set homework tasks on there and children can access it at any time and do the quizzes as often as they lie. It saves their scores and lets them say whether they found it easy or hard and the teachers can see the results.

I would ask the school if they subscribe and if they say no I would ask them why not.

My children use a program called "Mathletics" which is fabulous. It covers the maths curriculum well and has lots of step-by-step examples. I think that they are offering a free trial at the moment. Lots of schools use it - might be worth asking your daughter's school if they subscribe to it?

I can highly recommend bbc bitesize (which you already have in favourites). More importantly though you need to get to the bottom of what the issues are at school. What is the cause of "not much support"? What evidence do you have? Are other children not making progress too?Is her teacher qualified in Maths? Does the school have a shortage of staff in this area? Was her Maths ok and now going downhill? See what the Head of Department says, but if not satisfied you may need to go further up the chain.
