IPT - Insurance Premium Tax reclaim

Options
I had a phone call from a company called Dream Works Marketing Solutions advising that I may be eligible to reclaim up to 20 years IPT tax claimed from me in error, by various insurance companies. It was stated that some insurance companies have been adding their own tax to the Government tax [currently 6% but was 5% previously]. Several companies were named, some of which I have used.

Dream Works wanted a £39.99 investigation fee to proceed and for them to request up to 20 years records from companies and they advised me that as a minimum I'd get £1,200 back. They gave me their full company details, including company number 8902215. It is registered at Companies House from Feb 2014.

Anyone else had a similar call?

Any idea if this is similar to the PPP scandal?

Is it a scam?

Did you ask them how they know what you have paid to get this minimum £1,200 back?

The fact that they are registered at companies house means nothing. Anyone can set up a company and its not a terribly difficult process (even I've done it!)
  • Yes I did ask and it was supposedly based on average motor and home premiums. Not specific to me, hence my refusal to pay the fee and quest to find out more.

My immediate view is that this is a scam but thought I'd put it out there and see if other people had experience of the issue and if anyone had claimed money back. Also to alert others in case they get similar calls and do pay the fee up front.

Whatever scam next? You can claim back 20 years of income tax maybe.

There has been no such occurrence. Let me guess, they named all the big providers that statistically you are likely to be with.

And there is the advance fee in advance fee fraud.

Being registered at companies house doesnt mean a thing. You could have a company registered there in a couple of weeks. It is only a register of companies. ALthough alarms should be ringing when its only just been registered and it also means they can go into administration when you claim fails and you dont get your advance fee back.
    Is it a scam?

Of course it is. Another blatantly obvious one at that too.

They are not registered as a claims management company so their activity is automatically illegal.
