auto rotate on ipad help please

please could anyone help me, my ipad won't rotate and i always have a slit screen cannot get a full screen i have looked at settings and can't find anything amiss nor have i changed any setting myself. this problems seems to stem since my apple ipad had an uppdate as it was ok before the update. thank you all very much in advance x x
