Working out gas supplier - help needed

My property was supplied by Scottish Power when I moved in and I switched to Eon which completed on 4th Feb.
Yesterday I noticed that SP have set up a new DD on my bank account and set up a new account for gas only. On phoning them they said they were the supplier and Eon were wrong. So I phoned Eon who said they were the supplier and the SP were wrong.
I phoned the MPRN number to find out who supplied and they said they don't have any details.
So now I have 2 companies both saying they're supplying my gas and both are billing me for this so how do I find out who's telling the truth?

Well one of them is wrong, but what is amazing is that Xsoserve, ( The bible of who supplies each gas meter), "had no information"
Try calling 0870 608 1524 again, (maybe you got a staff member haveing a bad day previously), if the answer is still "We have no information", WRITE a joint letter to both SP and Eon headed Complaint - Don't phone or Email - Adviseing them that you will be contacting your bank to recall any D/Debits taken by either party till the squabble is settled0 -
Presume you have emails/ a letter from your new supplier that you can forward to the old supplier .0

As the OP applied to switch to Eon, and Eon accepted the OP as a customer w.e.f. 4th Feb, I would be inclined to continue paying Eon and close the SP DD with the bank (and claim any deductions from that new DDI created by SP which presumably the OP did not authorise under the DD guarantee)
Complain to SP & Eon as suggested.
In the unlikely event SP are actually still the current supplier, once this is resolved, then the money already paid to Eon can be given to SP instead. But probably Eon & SP will come to an agreement between them to ensure the OP/customer is (effectively) supplied on the the tariff of their choice w.e.f. 4th Feb.0 -
Morning wildheart83,
I'm sure we can get to the bottom of this for you
You say you moved in to a property already supplied by Scottish Power, did you contact them when you first moved in with your start reads ect?
How did you change over to us at E.ON? over the phone, comparison site etc?
Can you look at the meter serial number on the gas meter, does this match what we have and does it match what Scottish Power have?
Sorry for all these questions, but I want to try and help you
Thanks

Morning wildheart83,
I'm sure we can get to the bottom of this for you
You say you moved in to a property already supplied by Scottish Power, did you contact them when you first moved in with your start reads ect?
I gave readings which didn't ever seem to be accepted by them as the first bill I received showed estimates.
How did you change over to us at E.ON? over the phone, comparison site etc?
I changed via confused.com
Can you look at the meter serial number on the gas meter, does this match what we have and does it match what Scottish Power have?
Eon have confirmed (three times now) that the serial number is correct, however Scottish Power have never confirmed either way. I am awaiting yet another call back from SP today so will push them for an answer on the meter serial number if/when they phone.
Sorry for all these questions, but I want to try and help you
Thanks
Helena
Thank you for the replies. Unfortunately, since SP seem incapable of basic arithmetic, still haven't sent out my welcome pack from October, locked me out of my own online account effectively preventing me from receiving bills, I'd hazard a guess at who's got it wrong, but i'll wait and see what's said.
Oh, and I've cancelled their DD to be on the safe side.Feb 2024:

Thanks so much for the extra info.
I'm glad it appears that we have helped as much as we can.
There is a Scottish Power rep on here, I wonder if they may help us from their end? Then we can get things moving.
If you need me though, just give me a shout
I've got an email address in my profile page as well, like most of the reps on here if you want me offline.

Perfect, thank you! I'll be sure to give you a shout if I'm struggling. It just seems odd that the 0870 number told me they had nothing registered against my property thoughFeb 2024:

I see, so this makes me thinks you're an IGT (independent gas transporter). This means the gas isn't transported by national grid, but by another transporter.
It may be worth giving the IGT number a call, if you just drop me an email, I can give you all the info and numbers you need.
I'm just not allowed to post links on here

Finally got it sorted (I think)
Even though Eon kept confirming my meter serial number, it was the MPRN number they had wrong. I'm not sure whose supply they took over but it wasn't mine.
Eon estimate it'll take 2-3 weeks to get it transferred over but in the mean time I'm in credit with Eon and owe a lot more to SP than I thought. Can I ask Eon to refund me so that I can pay SP for the gas I've used?Feb 2024:

Thank you very much for the extra info, and I'm so please you've got to the bottom of this.
So it's an ET (erroneous transfer)
Have you spoken to us about what to do with the credit?
I can help you with it though if you need me to?
You can pop your details in an email and I'll help as best I can
Thank you
