The Pullman (formerly Novotel) is great, but not cheap. Talking of which, do you have a budget?
  • Very basic b&b but it does the job - fairway or central on argyle street opposite the station. I've stayed there a few times to get the Eurostar

With this b&b is it possible to check in early and leave the luggage there? Only stopping by lobdon before moving on the next morning so wanted somewhere to check in early, leave the luggage there and spend the day exploring london.

I've always struggled to find cheap places in London that allow you to leave luggage and have often ended up using the Left Luggage companies based at the railway stations. They arent cheap but they are quite handy, particularly if it means you can bag a cheap travelodge room nearby.

I agree with the above poster most hotels allow check in from 2pm as often check out is 10am at earliest and 12pm at latest and they have to get the rooms cleaned. There are several buses that go from St Pancras to the British Museum (use www.tfl.gov.uk journey planner to see times and bus stops) and it is £1 per suitcase at the cloakroom. If you have airline carry on size cases you could use the lockers at the British Library at a cost of £2 (£1 is refundable) and is is a couple of minutes walk from the station.

There is a Premier Inn (Kings cross) which is beside the station and they do family rooms. You are unlikely to get a cheap rate this last minute however.

I have but it depends what you've got in your bags they didn't lock them away just put them in a pile of bags in the reception kiosk which wasn't locked. I wouldn't have left anything valuable in there but my case was fine when I got back. Also they have a key drop box if you check out early.

Not sure if this is still the case, but I remember Travelodge refusing to let guests drop bags off before check-in 2yrs ago.
  • We've used the Alhambra Hotel in Kings Cross before. http://www.alhambrahotel.com/

Basic rooms, but breakfast is included and they let you leave luggage.

Yes, Travelodge don't have rooms to store luggage and won't let you leave it before check in or after check out.
