Travel insurance - Cancellation question

Options
Hi. I have a question about insurance covering cancellation. I am about to buy insurance and want to get a level that covers my ticket cost to Australia. Thing is, the ticket was purchased on a card owned by the other traveler, not me. In this case, since technically, on paper, I didnt pay for the ticket, would insurance, in my name, cover the ticket cost? Im not sure how this works.
Any advice appreciated. Thanks

How are you paying the other person for your ticket?

It should be ok assuming the ticket is in your name, if possible may be better leaving some kind of trail eg transferring the money from your account to theirs.

Insurers typically request a letter from the airline or travel provider confirming the trip was cancelled and the associated costs.

Read the policy so you understand what you're covered for and any exclusions.

Be aware if you don't have a return ticket / it's a one way trip the policy may not cover you at all.

Scan your travel insurance and any other important documents eg passport etc and send them to an email address you can access abroad eg hotmail. This can be really handy if you lose the documents
