I'm looking for suggestions for beauty items for my big day, i have an oily Tzone, dry cheeks and i'm prone to break outs/large pores but i don't want to go into a department store unsure of what i'm looking for and come out £100 lighter and no much better off product wise so i'm hoping for suggestions on what to pick up
I know which mascara i'll be using and i'm picking up a teeth whitening kit but that's as far as I've got so if anyone has any recommendations please let me know
I've recently heard about blotting papers and I've heard good things about clinique but as a none regular wearer of make up it's all just words to me.
I tried benefits powder last week and it's not really giving me any coverage so i'm ruling that out.
Thanks in advance

Sounds like you have combition skin.
How long is it till your wedding? In the last 6 weeks at least you need to start any beauty treatments like facials etc to see the benefit for your big day.
I'd suggest you start with maybe getting a couple of facials to help your skin and make it at its best so makeup will stay on longer and look better. If you can't afford salon prices local colleges do them very cheap or wowcher/groupon etc always have offers. You don't wanna leave it last minute just incase your skin reacts to treatments/products.
If you don't cleanse, tone and moisturise start now looking for products for combition skin. La Roche Posay do fanastic products for combition/spot prone skin its avaliable at boots.
For makeup you need a primer especially since a wedding is such a long day. A primer is going to help prepare your face for makeup by making it smoother, filling out lines and pores and being a sort of anchor for your foundation to grip onto. You could use a blotting powder or loose translution powder. Rimmel Stay Matt Powder is meant to be very good and a brilliant dupe for MAC powder.
I really like Illamsqua loose powder.
Have a little look at Pixiwoo Wedding Makeup Tips its an excellent video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_lnHYVvmWA0 -
Thank you, i cleanse and moisturize but after visiting the Origins counter today picked up a charcoal mask and will start using a toner.
It's 7 months away but i wanted to leave enough time to trial enough products until i find the right ones for me.
I have a MAC primer which i love but i find my make up doesn't stick to it very well so have just got a dr. brandt product which is working well, i'm hoping not to need to add much else to my list but have a sinking feeling that i have.
So i have
cleanser
toner
moisturizer
primer
pore refiner
tooth whitener
anything else i might need to add before i can start on the make up?
Thank you for the video link, sadly i have no sounds but i'll watch it on my phone shortly xx0 -
If it is of any help, when I got married I was told by a make-up artist who did weddings to prep my skin using Smashbox photo finish primer, use a very good quality foundation that invisibly blended into my face (she recommended a Chanel one - i think the equivalent today is perfection lumiere ) and once all my make-up was on spritz a MAC fixing spray over my face. That last one was fantastic - my face looked sort of...radiant.
The rest of my make-up came from my existing make-up bag.
I got married in 40 degree heat and my make-up not only stayed on all day but also looked good in the photos.0 -
I had my make up done for my wedding with Bare Minerals. I have quite greasy skin and am prone to shine and it was brilliant.
Superdrug and the body shop both do blotting papers, I'm a regular user!0 -
Thank you ladies, ill pop into mac and have a look at their foundation and sprays, sadly chanels foundation is out of my price range, i've just had a look at blotting papers and will be picking some up next week0

There's not much difference in price between MAC and Chanel, I suggest going to Estee Lauder, getting coloured matched for a double wear sample and using that, you'll get at least a week from their samples. I know you have a primer but if you fancy something different I recommended Estee Lauder Spotlight or MAC strobe cream which are virtually the same product (same parent company) either of these products give that ethereal glow that gets better as the night goes on. I second the finishing spray my No 1 choice is Urban Decay, Bridal if you want a cheaper version but still of excellent quality, MUA from Superdrug do a fantastic alternative, I think its called fixing or finishing spray. Also You Tube is your friend, I recommend Wayne Goss make up artist, he gives amazing advice and simple to follow instructions and product recommendation for all price ranges, be warned his videos are highly addictive!, best of luck0

I would suggest spending your money on a good base and that way your skin will look wonderful and you can spend less money from then on in...
Foundation is key for your skin and make up to look great. I would look up Lisa Eldridge as she has lots of videos on her website and I have learned a lots from watching them.0 -
Thank you all, i'm off into nottingham tomorrow to pick up some samples of the things recommended, or buy them if they are really good, can anyone recommend a long lasting eye shadow, all of mine seem to wear off after a few hours, also a lipstick that won't leave me with that horrible lip liner look when the rest has worn off x0

There are some great youtube tutorials on wedding day makeup. Might be worth taking a look at those0

It might be worth having a few professional facials too to get your skin prepared and the beauty professional may be able to offer advice on what best to use on your skin. If there is a college near you that has its own salon, you could try that as their prices are a lot cheaper than salons on the high street or even in department stores.0
