Chromecast... will it do this...?

Options
I am becoming a bit confused by what the chromecast can and cannot do.
It can cast a tab from Chrome on a laptop/pc.. but also an android phone running chrome?
Also, My primary purpose is to make it easy for the missus to watch S4C Clic (TV OD, like iplayer but in welsh) from her phone. However, the programmes, when touching play on her phone, plays in a separate video player, and not within the browser. Does this mean that it would not cast, unless the video player was supported? You can long-press the video, and then bring up a menu to share (which I tried with Allcast and my dlna bravia TV but brought up a server error message) if that's an option.
If someone has 3 minutes to test it, I'd be eternally grateful! :D

It casts from a PC chrome browser tab, but not smoothly.
  • It won't do what you want, yet. Current app support on android is limited, and you may only find youtube and iplayer useful. You cannot mirror the android screen yet (you can, but you need a rooted nexus).

Best bet? Get a HDMI cable from the phone/PC to your TV

I think I'll hold off for now then. Thanks for the info :-)

The original idea is to use your Android or iOS device to set up streaming direct from the internet to the ChromeCast and hence the TV (and you can turn off the mobile device then and the streaming continues).

Using Chrome tabs from a PC is a beta feature and it doesn't work very well as it adds another device into the loop (turn the PC off and the streaming stops).

See here http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/03/21/review_google_chromecast/ (see also the comments, some of which are quite helpful).
