Tax online - copycat website warning

can anyone confirm if the tax disc is ever actually received when ordered through this site? A friend has been duped and frantically trying to help her out. Money was taken twice0

My elderly father just got caught with this site and is really upset (yes, I have told him over 50 times put the url in the bar not google but to no avail). No tax disc as yet but he only ordered on Tuesday. I hope it doesn't arrive because at least the debit card company would need to look into it. Has anyone had any luck getting a refund of the 40 quid through the debit card company? I'm going to try on Monday. The site is a scam. With the word gov in the url and identical layout / color scheme, I think there is no other way to describe it. Will report back if I have any luck getting a partial refund.0

No reason to believe that they won't send you your disc. They themselves will order it for you on your behalf. That's what you are paying the extra for.0 -
I too have just discovered that I have been caught by this website!
I always renew my tax online and even had my renewal notice to hand. I did not intentionally go on their website, but when you type in the DVLA website address they come up first in the search.
So confused by this post. If you went to the effort of typing in the DVLA address, why didn't you just go to that address? Can't understand why you would type in a valid web address and then 'search' for it.
Also, I've just searched Google for "renew tax disc" and that site did come top, but it was labelled as a paid ad listing. The top natural search result was the official site. Just spend a few extra seconds checking what you are clicking on and the site itself if you are about to hand over money.0 -
People who fall for these sites are the same people who have virus and spyware riddled computers and upteen useless toolbars that they have no idea how they got there.0

Came across this site:

Very alike with the offical tax online gov website! Just a warning to all.
They charge you £40 for the service of the tax disc and £8.50 for SORN!
Contact DVLA link is even more dodgy the number they give isn't even DVLA!
This is blatantly not the correct site because it's web address is not " .gov.uk". how much banging on does it take before people wake up . The web is not the place for the bewildered. You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0 -

I've seen this time and again with people who are not totally computer literate. You give them a website address and they search for it through the toolbar they have added in unknowingly, because that is how they always find websites.
An awful lot of people don't know how to enter a URL into their browser, or why they should.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. The site is still "up" but it's not working due server maintenance.

And for all the people with elderly relatives that are unfamiliar with the internet, perhaps online is not the place to buy road tax. Maybe they should go to a post-office, obviously being careful not to walk into a newsagents by mistake.0 -
