I think this one is one of the best colours for UK colouring.
How do discover what skin tone you are? I'm quite pale but I do have areas of hyper pigmentation. So not sure which shade I would need. I don't like the tanned look.0 -
If you've got a local Avon lady, you can get the BB/CC creams and try them, and return them for a refund if you don't like them. No worries abou money spent if it doesn't work.
(Yep I am an Avon lady
I do find the no quibble returns very handy!)
This is a good idea, I like Avon products in terms of effectiveness and colours but the perfume added is no good for my skin, if you don't react to it then give this a go.0 -

In general you would look at the veins in your wrist and see what colour they show, if they are blue you are cool (yellow) toned and if they show green you are warm (pink) toned, if neither or a mixture of the two you would be neutral. This is a basic guide to get you into the right group but to find the right shade you need to go to a cosmetics counter, I like MAC, also Estee Lauder and I hear good things about Bobbi Brown. Once you have been shade matched you can then hunt around online for cheaper dupes of your preferred consistency and colour if you want to.
I used to have hyper pigmentation and couldn't cover it with anything only improve it, I used to alternate between EL Double Wear and Revlon Colour stay and lots of powder, it was a good day when peeled I off those horrible patches.0 -
I think my veins look blue. So would I then need to buy a cream which is pinky in tone?0

Yes and then its just getting the right shade (depth) don't go too pink though it will give you a ruddy look, you can also wear neutral colours or like me a slightly yellow colour and then the natural pink just gives a brightening effect, good luck, remember samples are your friend

Thanks for all the repsonses. In the end I bought the No 7 essentially natural foundation in Calico (the boots lady did the match test thing) and I'm really happy with it. Good coverage, but natural looking. I also splashed out on a foundation brush, having always used my fingers previously, and I like the result.0

I have a foundation brush and I'm not sure how to use it right at all I seem to get brush stroke marks just like when painting a wall :rotfl:No more unnecessary toiletries Feb 2014 INS: 24 UU: 13. Mar 2014. INS: lost count, naughty step for me! UU: 80 -
If you use short light sort of whisking the surface strokes you will get a good finish. Dot the foundation over lots of places first before blending it all together so you are. Ot using the brush to spread it out over much of a distance.

Thats the foundation I have, its really good value, just under a tenner and the tube I've got I've had it well over a year. I have a shade just a bit darker than my matched shade because that makes me look too pale. I've got the No7 tinted moisturiser too but the foundation gives a little more coverage. Only thing with the TM is that I don't need to use moisturiser underneath it.0 -

To add to Pinzy's comments (am an Avon lady too; actually I recruit Avon ladies...) - if you're not sure what suits you, definitely worth trying Avon - if only for the No quibble guarantee.
For my money though whilst Avon do various BB/CC creams and a budget tinted moisturiser (Solutions) I much prefer the ANew tinted moisturisers (ANew is our top of the range skincare regimes, based on age). They're going to clearance in our current campaign so half price at the mo. :T
Incidentally, for anyone with Rosacea it's worth trying the ANew Ultimate Day Cream - one of my ladies swears blind it 'cures' hers.Make the most of everything in life (especially Avon
