printer grinding noise

I have a epson stylus dx6000 printer and just before putting in new inks it stated to make grinding noise and the yellow ribbon at the back started to shake, and the cartridge compartment stopped and then 3 cog wheels came on. The printer then shut it self off. This happened even when i started it again. Can this be solved or is it a repair job and maybe a new printer. Thanks.

Hmmm... I thinke the techincal term for that problem is likely to be censored by the forum.

Open it up and see if there's something visible jamming the print head transport or the paper feed path.
Failing that, time for a new printer-inkjet repair is never economic.
