B&Q Homeplan Card

Hi all,

I'm buying a house with the boyf and can't really afford to fork out for the new kitchen at the same time (but the kitchen is horrible and needs doing ASAP) we've had the kitchen designed by B&Q; and someone suggested getting the Kitchem on B&Q homeplan card - has anyone had any experience of this?

Thanks,
Emma.

I have looked on the B&Q website, and cant find the homeplan card, only the acount card.

This has an excruciating interest rate of 23%

It would be sheer stupidity to pay for anyting using this method IMHO
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

The only benefit I can see is they give you 6 months grace before you have to start repaying, but the interest rate is still 14.9% and you can get a much better rate than that elsewhere.

Whats the 6 months interest free for? How can that be a benefit? You're just prolonging the debt. You'd even be better off stoozing the money.

Tha Wharf is GAGGING for a new kitchen (we bought in April) but Mr Phirefly and I are just going to give it a year until we're comfortable with the mortgage repayments and have saved up a bit more. Scratch your itch with a bit of cheap repainting and another trip to Ikea :)

    Whats stoozing?!

Might be better off putting it on an interest free credit card?!?

The kitchen at the moment is non existant! Literally - no workspace, a very questionable stove and no cupboards !! x

The card is fine if you have the money to pay off the kitchen in full before 6 months time.

Usually, if you don't clear the balance on cards like this in time, they immediately lump on all the interest you would have saved over the 6 months.

Hammer B&Q down on the price of the kitchen too. It can be done.

yeah, interest free credit card if you really need the kitchen now and reckon you'll be able to switch cards till you've got the cash to pay it off.

I though WE were slumming it. My cracking formica sounds positively plush compared to what you're putting up with! Its hard to rein yourself in when you've finally got your hands on a place though isn't it :)

:o It really is!! I will try my best to hammer B&Q down on price; and will put on interest free credit card - really tough when there are so many things that I feel like I NEED right now - I'm not greedy; but I am conscious that my 4 year old need proper dinners not just microwaved things!! Been quoted £1800 for 11 units, sink, worktops and hob, oven and extractor fan - is this decent price?! I know people don't recommend B&Q but on my budget, which is very tight, I don't see much other option!!

If the carcuses are in good condition just swap the doors, this way you can get an expensive looking kitchen for very little outlay.
Also you would be able to change them yourselves and save even more

That price doesn't sound too bad at all really, as you know, skys the limit with how much you can pay for a kitchen and even for a small basic one, I can't imagine you'd get much change from 2K wherever you bought.

Out of pure nosey interest which range have you had costed?
