Anyone savvy with cheap flights?

Hey everyone
I'm new here and was wondering if someone could help me. I want to fly to Mobile, Alabama from Newcastle airport in the UK around the 19th July.
I want to fly out of Austin Texas around 27th August. So I guess I'm looking at 2 one way flights, it is SO expensive, but I'm determined to go, I just want to do it the cheapest possible way. Can anyone help?
Thanks
Robyn

To fly in and out of different airports, look for the multi-city or open jaw option. Usually it will be much cheaper than booking two one-ways. Use price comparison sites like Kayak or Skyscanner to find out the best options and then book the ticket direct from the airline's website. Looks like British Airways offers the best and cheapest options. If you buy from them, make sure to sign up to the Executive Club and collect the Avios. That trip will give you enough points for a return reward flight to many European destinations.0

BA has direct flights from AUS-LHR.
Kayak is very good for getting a feel for prices.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -

Why those two places, out of interest? You may find it easier to fly to larger airports nearby and book seperate internal flights or overland travel.0 -
The cheapest airlines I've ever used are WizAir (Hungarian I think). Really really affordable.0

The cheapest possible way would be to not travel during the busiest travel week of the year at the start of school holidays but I suppose you knew that. Although BA, already mentioned as the only airline flying to the UK from Austin and there are of course none at all to Mobile( I assume you have friends of family, otherwise why?) have sales from time to time, there won't be any seats available for those dates.
You probably need to look at a combination of BA and AA flights to get you there, with a connection from Newcastle to Heathrow, netflights are showing a fare of £1041 on BA which is £300 less than the next lowest fare flying via Paris on Air France, which I would never recommend. If you fly midweek you can usually shave £30 off the fare but you are not going to get cheap flights anywhere in the States on July 19th!0 -
Thanks everyone! I can get flights for about £1,000 - I'm visiting friends but I want to travel America's South
Flying to Mobile from Newcastle (non direct) then from Austin back to Newcastle.
Yep, busiest time but I work in a school, and these are the only hols I can get! Thanks everyone xx0 -

I would agree with this, particularly for Mobile. Austin is fine, it's an international grade terminal. But Mobile is a tiny regional airport, only served by a handful of flights. And most of those are on tiny jets (~40 passengers) if it makes a difference to you. I know many people who don't like flying on smaller aircraft, so thought I should mention it.
Either way, I'd consider flying into one of the larger airports nearby (e.g. Birmingham, Jackson, New Orleans) and then driving over to Mobile. All are within 3-4 hours drive. Quite an easy drive on their interstates as well. I haven't priced any of them to see if they're cheaper, but they should have more choice including the US domestic budget airlines such as Southwest and Spirit.
ETA: I'd suggest looking at flying into one of the international hubs (e.g. Chicago, New York/Newark, even Dallas/Fort Worth) and then transferring onto domestic flights. I haven't done much pricing but saw there's some really cheap flights out of Dublin to Chicago at the moment (around £600 on your dates) if you can manage to get to Dublin and then on from Chicago cheaply.0 -

Since they fly to neither of the OP's destinations (or anywhere even close) you may as well have brought up that your local butcher sells the cheapest mince-pies, it would have been just as relevant.0
