DEA letter off DWP

morning everyone, had a letter from DWP this morning saying they had issued a DEA for a debt from 16 years ago.

last year i had a letter off them telling me about the debt of £362.92 so i rang and offered to pay. gave them my bank details and agreed a payment schedule.

(this was apparently for i crisis loan i had. i have no recollection of this debt but if they said i owe i must do!)

no payments taken. Another letter 6 months later, same thing rang them with offer etc.

today get another letter for DEA so what now???

thanks in advance.

    Try again?

And this time take the name of the person you speak to, the date and time of the call.

Ask when the first payment will go out then ring if they don't take it.

Follow up your phone call with a letter saying 'on ..... I spoke to..........and agreed to repay loan @....................by DD/SO (Keep a copy and the free receipt from the post office.)

At least if it happens again you can quote what you have done.

Quite honestly this should be put down as an official error if it happens a third time and this time you will have evidence that you have tried to pay the debt.
  • thanks for that, so will this stop the DEA? they have enclosed a letter they have sent to my works payroll department so not sure it can be stopped.
