....'yesterday I saw a scammer listing a lot of expensive electronics, bank transfer only, short duration listings. Ebay have now removed them, but I think they should have left a note explaining that instead of just a generic screen telling you that the item no. was no longer valid.'
Would that have teased out the real issue?

The real issue is that the only reason eBay gets away with its sweepings under the carpet is because most people that don't have a clue remain clueless about what a hotbed of fraud ebay really is, and large numbers of moneymakers that do have a clue have an equally selfish tendency to condone hushing it up.

So with luck a few more moneysaving peeps who didn't have a clue will have one before they finish reading this thread!

    Just my twopennorth, of course.

PS No iieee, this one sold for the right price.

Oh, sorry, I didn't realise I was here to 'tease out the issue' for you

IMO, you'd have to be living under a rock to think that ebay was fraud-free.

Hasn't it been covered on Watchdog? Panorama? Judge Bloomin' Judy? ;)

Good luck with the campaign, but consider a more transparent approach in future ;)

But it's obviously not as interesting if you don't go with Peter's conspiracy theory;)

If people still bid on dodgy stuff with all the 'how to buy safely' content already on eBays site then putting a post here won't help them either.

Although the original point seemed to be about a coverup but now its seemed to have changed to informing people who don't have a clue?

Umm, yes, it's all terribly big brother.

If the listing has been removed, the winner will have been notified. Ebay doesn't let you contact other users you're not trading with.

as been said ive contacted a few bidders before on items that werent mine

I had an item 'bought' on BIN recently by an auction wrecker. I reported them to eBay and eBay credited my fees back and deleted the listing, although it had obviously finished. I was told this was to prevent the item showing as 'sold' when people do completed item searches, as that would obviously give a misleading representation of how much the item was worth. Could be the same/similar reason they deleted that auction?

this thread seems to be written in code - I feel like I need a dictionnary or translator to work out what it is all about - I'm not just referring to the message i've quoted but the original 'topic'. Help me out with this one please - what's an 'auction wreaker'? thanks. j x

Ebay is not a “hotbed of fraud”. Most transactions are fine.

There is plenty of fraud around on ebay, just as there is plenty of fraud around in most aspects of our lives.

Ebay fraudsters prey on the greedy, the naïve and the gullible, just as fraudsters do elsewhere.

If you take sensible precautions and use your brains, you are unlikely to become a victim.
