Santander error removed but still turned down

I had the error by Santander removed last month so my credit file is now back up to excellent and the offending default no longer appears.
However, I had a o% interest offer on one of my credit card providers which was refused when I phoned them to take advantage of it due to something on my credit file.
Today I tried to place an order with next online which seems to include a credit check (i didnt want an account) and was turned down.
Ive check on experien as I pay monthly but there is absolutely nothing on there now that I can see would affect me.
Santander yesterday offered me £185 compensation for their error - the second time they have done this - but why am I still beng refused?

First you should check your file with the other 2 agencies, they may have negatives on them. Are you on the electoral roll and what is your debt as a percentage of your salary.0

Much depends on the credit you already have, both available and owed.
Refinancing of balance transfers may becoming a thing of the past.0 -

As a side issue, I avoid purchasing anything from companies that insist on you opening a credit account before they'll sell you anything. Next used to be like that with their catalogue - not sure if they still are.0 -

I'm annoyed with Next. I used their website last year to buy goods. I specifically stated I didn't want to open a credit account with them.
I had a look at my Equifax Credit Report the other day and the cheeky blighters went ahead and opened one with a £600 credit limit which they marked as settled last October. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -
I am on electoral roll and use 15% of my available credit. Never had problems before other than when santander did the same thing last year0

Last year is a long time ago. Given the continual changes impacting consumer credit. FCA take over regulation of unsecured credit from Office of Fair Trading on 1st April, and incoming Mortgage Market Review becomes active on 26th April. There'll be a noticable change. As this regulator has teeth and intends using them.
RBS have already dropped 0% balance transfers totally.0
