Has Ebay opened the door for doulbe claims?

I was watching something online and the seller in question was saying he sent someone a vintage radio and the buyer said said it didn't work so could he send him $25 to get a tube replaced the seller said no return the item, so the buyer opened a case as item not as described.

The seller (so he claims) got back a radio which wasn't his and Ebay still gave the buyer back his full money and refused to reclaim the money back as they had tracking proof. The seller rings Ebay and puts in a complain so they put a strike on the buyers account and on the sellers account even though they can't prove either way what has happened plus they gave the seller back his money out of their own budget.

Is this becoming common now? I've only ever sold 4 items and have never had a problem as I mostly buy items but saying that this doesn't give me confidence if I wanted to sell anything again.

    I don't quite follow?

Buyer claims SNAD and sends back the wrong radio, and ebay give a no fault return but put a strike on both parties accounts? The SNAD makes sense, the switch is possible but extremely rare but strikes, what for?

Which part of the story puts you off selling on eBay? Yes, there are scammers on eBay but most buyers are honest. As for returning a completely different item, eBay has no way of knowing what was in the returned parcel. The strikes, as Soolin says, don't make sense.

The strike from what I gathered was given to the seller because the buyer opened a case against him and a strike against the buyer because the seller complained and said he sent back something that wasn't his.

There is no strike currently possible against a seller for a SNAD, only for non performance and they are almost an urban myth. We always tell people to report sellers, but there is no real mechanism for ebay to do anything- that is what the feedback is for. The only thing it might possibly be is if seller refused point blank to refund and the case closed against them and shows on their expanded seller dashboard , I suppose that could be termed a strike. However from late summer there will be seller 'defects' that will count against a seller for SNAD claims and such like so maybe they are confused with that.

I wonder if this is a disgruntled user who has got completely the wrong end of the stick, I see it all the time. Loads of people on places like Facebook (or even the Daily Mail!) with nonsensical stories that show that don't really have a scoobie what is actually happening. I have a work colleague who wanted to go to watchdog because she was 'scammed by paypal ' as they are crooks and thieves and break the law (her words), when you actually sorted out what happened she had sold a phone to someone, and they had said that if it was sent standard mail they would not claim against her if it was lost, but they wouldn't buy unless she used standard mail (this was a facebook sale). She sent phone, buyer reclaimed their money and colleague now wants to take paypal to small claims- madness.

It was an American programme I was watching online so perhaps it's something that is going on over their.

This is almost a definition of Daily Mail stories!
