Kwik Fit Question...

Hi all,

Last August I had to have my mid and rear exhaust hangers replaced on my '04 Renault Megane II, at a cost of £70 all in from Kwik Fit. Recently, I have developed a similar banging noise again and suspect that it may be the same issue.

Within 7 months and approx 7-8k miles (mostly motorway, the joys of long distance relationships!), I would not expect this to happen so suspect a shoddy job by KwikFit. Yes, Megane's have issues and a heavy exhaust, but there is no record of this happening in the cars 9 year history prior to me buying it.

Has anyone else experienced similar problems with them? If so, what action can you recommend? I really don't expect to have to fork out again for this.

Cheers,
pft

More likely a knackered engine mounting. As your engine is constantly shaking, if it has a duff mounting then the vibrations will travel down the exhaust and eventually the hangers will perish allowing you to hear the lovely exhaust banging sound again.

TrickyWicky - Thanks (I think?!). Any sure fire ways to tell this? I only get the knocking noise when the engine is on 11-1400 rpm so thought that might have ruled out dodgy engine mountings?

Any idea, if it was that, how much it might cost?

Cost depends where you go. If you have any mechanical / car friends £30 should do it plus the parts cost for another mounting.

Engine revs sound about right. We had a megane moons ago that had the same thing at about that engine speed. Only way to tell is to bring the clutch to the bite point and rev the engine to that speed. If the mount is knackered you'll soon feel the engine start shaking but it must be under load so don't do it in neutral.
