Help - Failed credit check for a t-mobile contact & just about to apply for mortgage

Options
Hi,

I need some advice...

Me and my wife have just had an offer accepted on a flat and sorting out mortgage and solicitors etc.

I am also an Ovivo customer and my phone has cut off at a very helpful moment.....so, I needed to get a new phone contract sorted as currently cannot phone or text...

So, I took advice from our broker at london and country (and who checked with his credit check expert in the office) who assured me that a credit check on a mobile phone would not make a negative impact on our mortgage application.

I have excellent credit scores for equifax/experian, no debt problems, no missed payments etc etc - but t-mobile (via carphone warehouse - !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) have rejected my credit check due to our (correct address) not matching the address on their system, I think they basically ran my bank account against the wrong address and this has caused the credit check rejection.

We are due to apply for our mortgage next week, and I'm not terrified that we're going to be rejected because of this.

carphone warehouse say they cannot help, and referred me to t-mobile directly who were zero help - in fact I was hung up on by 2 'managers' who said their complaints department didn't have a phone line or email and that I had to write to them - which will not help given the timescale that we need to make our mortgage application.

T-mobile say they can't remove the incorrect credit check - and I really don't know if I can do anything...

Advice please, anyone had similar problems?

I'm going to speak to london and country and explain tomorrow. I can't believe this has happened at such an important time, and I'm now seriously concerned that our mortgage applications will be rejected due to this mistake on t-mobiles systems.

HELP!

Gosh, what a nightmare! I'm not sure there's much you can do in such a short timescale. Do you by any chance subscribe to any of the credit scores? I'm just wondering if they might not have had a chance to report it before your mortgage application?
I'd have a look on the internet and see if you can find complaint email addresses and fire off an email as soon as possible.
Apart from that I'd keep my fingers and toes crossed and hope it all goes through.

It will only show as a search on your file and will have little to no impact. Other lenders can't see that the application was rejected, for all they know, you simply decided not to proceed with the contract. I would suggest getting a pay-as-you-go phone for now to avoid too many searches as this can have an impact...

I would sus out exactly why it was rejected as the samd could happen during your mortgage application and you don't want complications there...

Order your credit files from all three CRAs and establish if there's anything on there you don't know about and need to address;-

    Equifax

    https://www.econsumer.equifax.co.uk/consumer/uk/order.ehtml?prod_cd=UKSCR

    CallCredit

    https://www.callcredit.co.uk/stat-report-online/index.php?action=basket_add&tpl=setRegister&package=63&amount=1&mode=clear

    Experian

    http://www.experian.co.uk/consumer/statutory-report.html#orderReport

Do not pay extra for so-called "credit scores"as these are meaningless. All you need is the file data to see if anything is a problem.

The only credit check i have ever failed was t mobile, with an almost perfect Experian rating and a perfect Equifax one.

I was quite indignant and tried to complain but they were simply not interested. I just don't think they really want new customers.

Edit-though come to think of it I think that was about addresses too.

Don't worry about it, the same happened to me 6 months before i got accepted for a large mortgage, apparently the phone companies decline a lot of people for no reason.
  • Thanks for your replies...

Turns out T-mobile/carphone warehouse/!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ran SIX credit checks.

    SIX!

5 of them without my permission...

I've spent most the weekend on the phone to the above companies, and also checking with experian and equifax (the checks do show on my credit report on equifax)

T-mobile have said they will remove these 5 unpermitted checks and have approved the one that should have passed without running any more checks - turns out it was the address mismatch of top floor flat / first floor flat than caused the initial rejections...Unbelievable as the other addresses in this building are basement and ground floor - you'd think they could figure it out..?

Got hung up on 3 times on friday night by managers, but spoke to a helpful welsh chap called Scott at T-Mobile on saturday and hoping that he's got the majority sorted their end, now just need a chap at !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to finish off their end without running any more credit checks on me.

I've advised our brokers, and wonder if getting a notice of correction on my credit report would be a good idea to explain if there's any footprint of these 6 checks?

I honestly cannot believe that a 5.99 a month basic mobile deal has been so much stress with an excellent credit score on all the agencies.

any more help/reassurance that this isn't about to lose us our first home would be much appreciated!
  • the mystery unravels....

turns out that equifax have got 2 incorrect link address records from 2 of my banks with the wrong flat in the building.

I reckon likely they're the source of these problems....

Trying to get this all corrected, but really hope they can do it quickly so we don't lose the flat...

Bloody hell, I knew moving was meant to be stressful, but never realised....
