Parking Ticket :/

Options
Hi i have received a parking ticket in Lancaster Lancashire last week. I parked in the town centre as I was going to meet my girlfriend for lunch. The pay and display machine was broken so I couldn't pay. I left a note in the window. I came back to find a ticket in my window for £100 or £60 if paid within 14 days. I rang them up and they said there was a sign just above the Pay and Display machine saying that if it is not working don't park there and to be fair there is and I just missed it. Is there anything I can do or am I screwed.

Private or council? If the former, what's the name of the company?
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

Ok, so was the notice attached to the vehicle? Are you the registered keeper? And have you had anything through the post yet?

Ok, the standard course of action in these cases is to wait for the notice to the keeper to arrive through the post (between 29 and 56 days from the date of the 'incident'). This is because the notice to the keeper (NtK) has to contain certain information to make it valid, so it makes it more likely that the parking company will trip themselves up.

You then appeal this using the template in the Newbies sticky thread.

    UKPS are IPC members http://www.theipc.info/#!aos-members/cv75

...so after your first appeal to the PPC in a few weeks, you will get to do a IAS appeal instead of a POPLA one.

Wait for the NTK, though (the first letter in the post next month some time or early May).

DO NOT APPEAL NOW AND PLEASE DON'T POST TO SAY 'BUT THE TICKET SAYS I HAVE TO APPEAL NOW'. NOPE.

DO NOT phone these parking companies up again, for goodness sake this wasn't a real parking ticket and you've now said who was driving! This is private company not a Council or the Police - and even if it was a real PCN you don't deal with these things by phone, ever.

You are not screwed but please read the thread called 'Private Parking ticket? NEWBIES read these FAQs first!' at the top of this forum - which I will never link because newbies will find the forum works best to help you, if you learn to negotiate it, easily getting back to page one each time you read or write a thread. I will however give you this link:

And also just to add 'welcome to MSE forums'! :)

PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
