Cavity Wall insulation problem.

I've got a problem with a cavity wall company can anyone help me with this.
At the beginning of the year British Gas came round and did an assessment to see if we could get cavity wall insulation and if the property was suitable. The answer was that yeas we qualified and that due to the damproofing we already have not being 150mm they wouldnt do it but gave me the number of a company that would.
The woman from British Gas said the damproofing had to be this depth otherwize water could leach up into the insulation and cause damp all over the walls.
Right, so i phoned up this other company who will do the remedial work and the damproofing and they came out and did various assesments etc. The upshot being that they would do the work, the damproofing to 150mm,a tiny bit of pointing and put a gutter straight and then do the insualtion.
Sometime later 2 work men from the comapany came round and spent 10-15 minutes pointing about 10 bricks and fixed the gutter back. They asked if I would sign the work off, I asked what was happening about getting the damproofing done, they said they didnt know as it had been crossed off the list. they didnt know why.
I refused to sign anything and they got their boss, he said he didnt know why it was crossed off and the existing damproofing was o.k. I said then why was everyone elce saying it had to be 150mm? he said the regs had changed but it would be o.k. I said I wasnt happy as I was being told different things. He phoned his boss and said o..k then we will do it but there will be a big trench all around your house that you will have to get tarmacked yourself. I said you can forget it as I was never informed of any of this and where will I get 100s of pounds from?
They left the property and kept ringing me saying I had to have it done.I said that they were to stop contacting me as I didnt want it doing because of this trench round my house. I asked them to stop phoning and that that I wasnt going to pay anything at all.
It all went quiet untill I got a letter on Monday demanding £500 . I rang them and left a message saying they were getting no money and to not contact me again. I said they have no chance and that if they want it they will have to take me to court for it.
Next day they rang again and I reiterated that I was'nt going to pay and that they didnt tell me what was involved otherwize I would have said no from the start. I dont want anything to do with this company ever again. I said that they were going to have to leave it and he said I dont think we can and that he would leave it for now.
I explained that they had industry guidelines they have to work to and that they clearly hadnt done this. He went quiet and agreed.
What would you do next? Im thinking about going to the CAB on Monday I just want them to stop hasselling me. Is this the best course of action or would you go to the industry Ombudsman etc.
Also I have not signed anything at all.

Can anyone advise anything ? I'm definatley going to the CAB in person this Wednesday as the company wont stop harrassing me for £500. I've never signed anything and was given no information at all in order to make an informed decision.
I've emailed the CAB, consumer advise service as well. Thanks for reading.
