Hi All.
Title says it all really.
After having madam Tibsey for coming on 12 months next month, This week We have had the start of bringing little friends home !
Monday 6am, I was woken by her crying out, looked from the bed, to see a tail sticking out of her mouth. I tried to get it, but she ran down stairs with it. I eventually was able to get the mouse out the front door and ran to close the cat flap !
Yesterday was a nightmare. We have had a bit of a smell in the house all week. We thought she had done something somewhere we did not know about. I eventually tracked the smell down to the cellar door, moved all the boxes etc from by it and she was going mad. Locked her in the downstairs bathroom ( only door downstairs) and opened the cellar door, to be met by the smell, looked down and found a dead rat ! Not her fault as she has never been down there. Cleaned it up, walked out the back door to the bin, to be met by a dead Pigeon ! It was bigger than her ! .
Little later on, she ran upstairs, but quietly, as her bell didn't ring. She looked at me with pride and dropped another bloody mouse on the landing ! caught it in a plastic tub and took it across the road.
I haven't slept all night, had the smell from the dead rat up my nose, she has been jumping on me all night , as I locked the cat flap and the OH is going beserk, as he has a phobia about Mice/Rats and also Pigeons ! I know the next thing will be, ' I can't cope if you go away with work, she has to go'
Am planning on putting cat flap on out only, so she cannot bring anything in, but feel guilty leaving her out a long time. Anyone have any ideas on little cat shelters for outside, so she doesn't get cold, or as a refuge from other cats.
Don't want to let her go, but what we were scared of happening, has started. last year it was only Moths, but they freak me out !
Any ideas on what I can do and am I wrong trying to stop free access to inside for her. She is a big softy really, Just can't cope with daily ordeal of chase the mouse, especially when she brings them up to my bedroom immediately !
Dogs are so much easier ! lol

I had to lock our cat flap so my Tom couldn't get back in because of all the wildlife he'd bring home. You could put a small kennel or even a rabbit hutch outside for her to shelter in. I think it's probably better to keep her out rather than keep her in especially if she's used to being out all night. If you lock her in there's a possibility that she will howl and cry all night wanting to go out and keeping you awake. My last 2 cats were basically house cats so the problem never occurred but the previous 2 were outdoor cats and I got fed up with the "presents" they brought in.

Some people only exist as examples of what to avoid....0 -
Update.....
To take away the guilty feeling of locking her out in the daytime, or leaving her out too long, just bought this. Hope it works ! got self heated blanket too.

But bringing in gifts is what cats do.....;) and 6 am is a luxury.
Seriously, if you do lock her out for extended periods you may have to be prepared for her choosing another home if she misses your company (obviously I don't know how affectionate she is with you both).

Sorry this is no help to you but I think you might like this little story.
Years ago a work colleague arrived looking very frayed (and late) at work. The upshot was their Abyssinian cat had jumped on the bed early in the morning and was dashing about the bed. Then they discovered she was chasing a rat... in the bed followed by round the bedroom!
Thank goodness dogs don't do such thingsBeing polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

She won't be locked out all the time, it is just in the morning. She sleeps on my bed with me anyway, but around 6, she goes out, to do her ablutions. I normally get up about 8 am, so it will only be for this time, or early eve when she is catching the last of the daylight.
She is only a little cat, last year it was only moths and the 2 mice she has brought in looked like baby mice, so hopefully that doesn't get bigger.
She normally sits under the tree at the back of the garden on the low wall , which is fine, just wanted to get somewhere she could go to , if it rained. I fuss too much, if she is out too long anyway.
She is spoiled rotten here, at the moment, she is on my chair downstairs on a cushion she has flipped over to get all comfy, completely zonked out .0
